It seems to me if they beat Carolina next week they have the HFA and top seed wrapped up .........

So essentially this game was meaningless.............

they definitely tried tonight and looked pretty disappointed to lose. obviously they'll probably beat carolina and still get the 1 seed but it was still a big game for them.

uh, yes. They wanted to clinch the top seed and also keep NO possibly out of the playoffs.

Even if the Falcons did beat the Saints tonight.......for the Saints to not make the playoffs they would have had to lose at home to the Bucs in essentially a playoff game.......probably wasnt going to happen anyway.

I think the Falcons were dissapointed but really they couldnt have bettered their position that much.

I am just wondering if they didnt play a basic vanilla type game not showing much...........

        Just some thoughts

Falcons seemed more conservative than usual on offense tonight. In the last quarter their defense play calling seemed to get much more conservative as well. They generally play pretty conservative and consistent but seemed like they just had it in the back of their minds that all they have to do is beat Carolina.

The OP poses a very good question. These types of outside the box facts should be part of your capping. If anyone capped this game and never once considered who has more to gain and who has less to lose then you are not going to get far like that.

its still possible to lose to carolina. not probable but possible...they have a 53 man roster full of guys who get paid to work out and play football also and a couple of decent athletes. any given sunday. carolina has already locked up the first pick in the draft.
