Need opinions as gf thinks im wrong

Ok so my gf and I just left to get a pizza. On our was we were coming to a left hand turn...the lights were green to go through the light and a blinking red to turn left. She came to a complete stop at the blinking red...I asked her why did she come to a complete stop? She said you have to ... I said no if your turning left and its a blinking red with green in the lanes going straight you can just turn left without stopping....this was an argument with the last gf too as she told me I had to completely stop also. I been driving 9 years now and have not got pulled over yet. I told her I couldnt wait to get home and post on sbr to see who was right...so whos right??? live in MI is anyone cares to know
