#41respectfully disagree. Penn State and LSU had far, far better athletes on defense in that game than Navy and SDSU will have tonight (a fact underscored by the total of 44 rather than the opener of 60' here). teams like Navy and SDSU put most of their best athletes on offense, while Penn State and LSU recruiting gives them plenty of athletes for all positions. LSU was probably the best defense that Penn State had faced all year. one of the reasons that i can't back Navy is that they do not have the DBs to hang with SDSU's passing attack - that statement would in no way apply to either team in PSU-LSU.Originally posted by PSABBI have to agree with Vitalogist, the under is the correct play and the field conditions will play a huge part. This game has a lot of eerie similarities to the 2010 Capital One Bowl between Penn State and LSU. Penn State came into that game averaging 30 pts on the year, LSU 26. The line, instead of being in the low 50's, closed at 44 with PSU a -2.5 favorite. The field conditions (which were not as bad as what Qualcomm has had to weather this week, pun intended) completely threw off the speed advantage of the LSU Tigers and limited both teams offensively. The final turned out to be a 19-17 PSU win. I think tonight is going to play out in a similar fashion. I see both teams having a few uneventful first few possessions, and then minimal scoring in the first half. Probably a 10-6 or 13-7 game at the half. Scoring will be slightly up in the 2nd half, but not by much. Final will be 24-21 or 27-24, which means that the spread is pretty sharp. The line has already dropped to 57.5 in the last few hours. I think those that are going to play the under should grab it now, because I can't see it doing anything but getting down to 56 by gametime.
BOL to you tonight, i just think you're comparing apples to oranges in this instance. total's been sitting at 57' for some time now, and i think that it dropped 3 points because the public's pounding the under due to the weather. i plan to wait until closer to gametime, but if it ticks back to 58 at Pinny or Greek, i'm probably playing the over.Comment -

#42seems pointless to me...I'd just take SDSU -3 and not worry about the total as +3 and -3 aren't all that different...Originally posted by juanegoto push the total line up... If i buy points points win amount drops to -150...but by teasing it with the spread AND the total I get -110Comment -

#44I'll respectfully disagree back. LOL I will make no bones of contention regarding the quality of athletes in the programs, you are correct there. My point was that the field conditions for that game (which were far better than the one tonight, by all accounts I have heard) were a significant factor in keeping both teams to about 65% of their respective season scoring averages. Yes, the defenses were better...but if we're comparing apples to apples, then it stands to ration that the offenses most likely had "better" athletes as well. I just believe that if you look at this matchup, Navy is going to run the ball. Their triple option offense (which SD has seen via Air Force this year) is going to eat clock, or force them to punt. SD has been a scoring machine, and while I certainly agree that wet/slippery conditions favor an offensive player who knows where he's going to make his move vs. a defensive player that has to react...if the field is wet or muddy that means dropped passes. Fumbles. Stalled drives. These teams will score, but not like they have all season. BOL on your pick.Originally posted by BiffTFinancialrespectfully disagree. #48hey, man, appreciate your thoughts. based upon what they're showing right now, the field is in nearly tip-top shape. i guess that's what an NFL stadium crew can do (that was a big assumption to my analysis - that with time to prepare, they'd be able to get it ready). that's why i waited for it to tick back up, and when the Greek line jumped from 57' to 58', i took that as a really good sign. while you're correct that PSU/LSU vs Navy/SDSU is overall better athletically, my point is that mid-level or lesser teams put most of their best athletes on offense, while in power conferences, the defenses as a whole are much more athletic. my main thing is i initially capped it over based upon match-ups, i can't switch to under short of a monsoon, i'd just no-play it. anyway, BOL to you too, hope i read this one right, but i've been wrong plenty too. i lost on Penn State -2' in the game you mentioned, and that was for 4* rather than the 3* i have on the over tonight....Originally posted by PSABBI'll respectfully disagree back.
