I doubt that they win and I also doubt that this will settle. University has staff attorneys on salary, so no incentive to settle to avoid legal fees. Would be very interested to see the basis for this negligence claim.

Exactly what policies did Rutgers have a duty to enforce? School had duty to make sure student does not use webcam?!?!?

And, how do you prove that a breach of this suposed duty was the actual cause of the suicide?? There are likely so many intervening factors. It is crap like this that give attorneys a bad name imo.

But, it is not suprising to me when our society has a mentality that the government needs to be involved in every aspect of their life. Personal accountablity ceases to exist.

Schools don't care about the payout. Just a raise in tuition to follow. Same thing happened at my school when kid died drinking too much at a frat. Parents sued. Tuition sky rocketed 4k. Cover their losses and some.
