    Cris Weekly Review Feb 20th
The Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy took centre stage this week, along with the NBA All-Star game with regular NBA games having a break over the weekend and NHL having a two week break. Olympic Ice hockey in particular has seen tremendous action and has also seen a few upsets as well. The biggest upset by far was on Saturday with Switzerland outplaying the tournament favorites, Canada. Canada was a big -1000 to win the game in regulation and they had plenty on people taking the short odds. One of our customers was prepared to bet $20,000 to win $2000 and found out the hard way that sometimes upsets do happen when Switzerland won 2-0.

NBA All-Star weekend kicked off on Saturday with the novelty events like the 3 point shootout and the Slam Dunk Competitions. Our bettors always find these events popular in particular the Slam Dunk contest. Josh Smith from Atlanta was an even money favorite to win the event, and attracted most of the betting support which resulted in his odds dropping to -125. Little Nate Robinson from the New York Knicks however upstaged everybody at the odds of +230 to claim the Slam Dunk title. Dirk Nowitzki from the Dallas Mavericks won the 3pt shoot-out at odds of +230 and was well supported from the betting public. Sunday was the East vs West All star game with most of our bettors wisely taking the plus points on the East. In a game when you know players aren’t really giving everything they can, taking plus points is a smart thing and they got the money in a 122-120 win by the East.

College Basketball was much better this week for us, and the excitement of March Madness just around the corner is starting to show with the amount of money starting to be wagered on the big teams like Duke, Villanova, Memphis and Connecticut.

Charlie Wi denied Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee to win the Maybank Malaysian Golf tournament on the European tour. Charlie Wi was in our ‘field’ price and was a good result for us, but Jaidee would not have been received very well by us with a couple of $1000 wagers placed on him at 12/1.

Rory Sabbatini outlasted the field to win the Nissan Open at large odds of 40/1. For two weeks in a row one of our customers has picked the winner of the PGA Tour event! This week we didn’t have too many other people bet on Sabbatini, but still it was another good week in golf for our customers.

    Until next week,

    Shane Catford
