    Alex Rodriguez or Albert Pujols
i was starting to look into fantasy baseball leagues, and i'm not really sure which player i should take.

i was thinking Puljols would be the better choice between the two. the more i think about it more and more, there are more first baseman that put up stats than there are 3rd baseman.

Guess it depends on when you're planning to draft the other position. If you're thinking of using your first two choices, it might not matter much. If you're thinking of picking one or the other then spending a few rounds on pitching/outfielders/etc, then you're probably better off going with A-Rod #1 since first base is deeper than third.

I would go with AROD. Not many good 3rd basemen out there in fantasy. You can pick up a decent 1st basemen in later rounds. But to get either one of those two players, you better hope you get either the 1st or 2nd pick of the draft.

I will be playing ESPN Fantasy Baseball but wont be drafting until a few days before the season starts. Dont want to draft now and have my players get hurt in spring training.

Thats just it. When doing a live draft for fantasy, you have to look at all the angles. See how deep each position is, so you know if you can pass on that position to the deeper rounds.

I for one like to take good closers early. There is not many good solid closers that play everyday. Teams like to flip flop closers, and good ones are hard to get. You could never draft too many closers, they could be used to trade for better Starters or position players after the draft. Thats something to think about.

Any thoughts on creating a custom league with some of the SBR posters?

If you guys play ESPN, we can all go into a group and call it SBR. If you dont play at ESPN, we can do a yahoo league or something.

looks like Pujols would have been the right choice so far. he hit his 10th home run tonight.

Yep, in the young season. Pujols looked to be the best choice. But I think AROD is more balanced. He will steal more bases and be right there with Albert in HRs and RBI.

But if I ever had first pick, I would of picked Pujols and got David Wright at 3rd. D.Wright and AROD seem to be about even, or very close.

David Wright is a hell of a player but about even to Arod? no way

Check the stats, they are about the same. Im not talking defensive, just the stats that matter in Fantasy. And the value of where you pick Wright compared to AROD. Yes, he is just as good as AROD at 3rd in fantasy.

I still think the stats seperate them a ways. The 21 homeruns obviously is the stand out stat. 21 homeruns...that's what puts Arod at the top. If he wasn't always a consistent league leader in homeruns he wouldn't be a #1 pick. steals are nearly the same...average...I'd give the lean on Arod based on his career numbers and he did hit 15 points higher. compare .285 hitter to a .300 hitter(example) also Arod scores more runs and drives in more(28 more) and probably even more with Damon leading off.

maybe in the future..who knows how Wright will fully develop but 21 more homeruns, 25 more runs scored(better than 25%), 28 more rbis(better than 25%)

Miguel Cabrera is another 3b that could be added to the mix here(although not with that bad current offense surrounding him now) as the top 3 3rd basemen for fantasy.

                                Your missing the point.
If you can get a AROD type player in the 2nd round, wouldnt you go for the best 1st basemen? So you would basically have Pujols and a AROD clone with a few less points in the different cats.

Wright has 30+ HR, 100+ RBI, 20+ SB Potential. To me, that is just about as good as AROD. And you get him in the 2nd round, or 3rd. Depending on how the draft went. Thats worth the little drop off in the cats.

This is all if you were to pick first or second. If not, then scratch that.

Still early. Cant judge the whole season on 3 weeks. Im sure they will be pretty much the same come the end of the season. Baring any injuries.
