i can't believe the bolts are going to let this guy go. if anything, they need to just trade Rivers and keep Brees.

#3So they are putting their future in Rivers hands. Not sure I would do that with a proven NFL QB in Brees. He is battle tested and Rivers is yet to play many snaps in the NFL. I would use the value of Rivers and trade him off for some needed help on their team. I would rather keep the proven QB over the hyped one.Comment -

#4Brees must be a cap casualty. Unusual for a QB, but maybe start of a trend. We've seen many teams getting crippled by overinvesting in the QB position. It should be interesting to see the implications of this decision. Look at the Steelers this year. You don't need much of a QB to win a Super Bowl if you've got a lot of other good parts working together.
The bigger question is who is going to sign Brees? There aren't many teams that couldn't use a QB like Brees. What kind of money is this contract going to ink?!Comment -

#5I think brees wouldn't be as successful somewhere else,he has L.T which helps
his passing game and he has gates who is the best TE in the NFL. Take those
guys away hmm??Comment -

#6silver and black for him hopefully, they have gates but he also had the worst wide receivers in the league, he would have a great year in OaklandComment -

#7Might also be interesting, should SD really just release Brees, to see how that might drive down the draft value of Vince Young, Matt Leinert and others.Comment -

THe benefits of keeping Brees
1). Works great with LT and Antonio Gates.
2). Very good player and good arm
3). Has the respect of the team
4). Can be on the verge of superstardom
5). Has experience
The benefits of not keeping Brees
1). Got hurt last year and people are watching closely to see how he performs
2). Kinda inconsistent couple bad years and couple good years.
3). Phillip Rivers on the sideline
4). Wants a really big contract
5). A lot uncertainly currently
My oponion is this guy is money, even if got hurt, he will rebound and get better as the young San Diego team is fairly young. If they get a superstar wide receiver watch out. They already have the best all around Running back, best Tight end.Comment -

#9All I want to know is why he was in the game to get injured in the first place. Marty still hasn't answered that question. They could have the best player at every position and they still wouldn't make it to the Super because of their idiot coach. Brees should be happy he gets to go somewhere else.Comment -

#12Chargers are crazy to let him go now, unless he is really hurt.
Next season could be the year for the Chargers. They have everything lined up, and should have a chip on their shoulder for having missed the playoffs. Why sacrifice the incredible talent pool on this team to a rookie QB's learning curve? There is a time to harvest and time to sow, and they're not the same time. The window of opportunity is short in the NFL. If they let Brees go, the Chargers just closed theirs.
Chargers would be better off letting Schottenheimer go. He has no clue about the playoffs, or about winning close games. Add a good coach, keep Brees, and the next Super Bowl could go to San Diego.Comment -

#15It looks like the fins are ahead maybe. thats not good for brees. i doubt he can be as effective in miami like he was in sd. they dont have the weapons as sd does.
what would you guys do?
1. go to a team like miami who has more financial muscle like miami but no weapons on O?
OR
2. Go to a detroit team with less money to give but better players?Comment -

#16I as a Charger season ticket holder hold be angry. First of all Phillip Rivers hasn't shown squat. I considered the Chargers to an AFC contender next year, and to release Brees would be a huge mistake.Comment -

#17As a Charger fan stuck here in Pennsylvania, This Makes me sick to think the Bolts are considering getting rid of him. Just doesn't make any sense. Anyone think his injury in the last game of the season was severe enough to cause this situation?Comment -

#23Originally posted by isetcapThat is exactly what I was just thinking. What a great fit. If he goes there, Detroit becomes formidable on offense. I don't know about their financial situation, but if they have any room, they should push hard for him.@ those damn Lions. Nice bump though, deep into the archives
