I always thought Geno Auriemma was a guy...
...turns out he's just a whiny little girl.

"I just know there wouldn't be this many people in the room if we were chasing a woman's record," the Connecticut coach said Sunday near the end of his postgame news conference. "The reason everybody is having a heart attack the last four or five days is a bunch of women are threatening to break a men's record, and everybody is all up in arms about it."
You're probably right about some of the people, no different than the petty, ignorant people who rooted against Henry Aaron back in the 60s and 70s just because of his skin color. But you're wrong, Geno, not everybody is up in arms about it. In fact, most of the nation couldn't give a rat's ass about what you and your basketball team are doing or have done.

By the way Geno, I'm one of those "miserable bastards that follow men's basketball." I've actually never compared the two sports, never thought I should since they are entirely different games played on two entirely different levels. I hope Santa brings you a set of balls for Christmas, Geno...either that or a new EZ Bake Oven for you and your gal pals to play with.

Willie he tells things the way they are. If coach K was on this streak they would have built a statue in his honor and feature him 24/7 on ESPN.

He is the most arrogant cocksucker to be a man coaching in the women's game... and cheating to beat it all.

No, Pavy, he just tells things the way he sees them, not the way things really are. What the UConn women have done is remarkable, I'm not begrudging them one little bit for the accomplishments. But suggesting this is all "equal" is turning a blind eye to reality. If he really wants things "equal" -- and I don't mean equality as defined by Title IX -- then let's just have one basketball team at each university, period. Let the males and females all try out for 12 total scholarhips per year and go that route.

Willie I think he is being sarcastic. He is basically telling people even if he wins 200 games in a row in womens basketball no one in this country will care about the record since they consider women sports inferior to mens in terms of record keeping.

If he's being sarcastic, he should wink when he finishes his statement so we all know.

For example, you and I are standing around the bash one year and I tell you, "John Doe is a helluva' hitter, kid is hitting .408 for the Frisco RoughRiders. He's a lock for the second base Silver Slugger award this year."

"Yes he is a good hitter," you reply. "But Willie, Frisco is a Double-A team so he won't be eligible for the Silver Slugger."

"Well he should be," comes my response. "He's a second baseman just like Robinson Cano and they're both playing baseball. They're equal, and I'm just telling you the way things are."

I'm still pulling for Stanford to snap that streak on Dec. 30th when they play them at home. Unfortunately, the streak will be past the record by then and Stanford is playing like do-do at the moment

Wasting your time talking to people "who never played the game" as Howard put it. As you noted. the games are not equal. announcers, who are relegated to following or reporting on this, are instructed to intentionally not tell the public the differences. I had a cousin who is a big lib and when i mentioned they don't even use a real basketball in women's game--he insisted i was wrong (cause he never heard that before)--so i quickly wagered of course and made a fast $5.

It is apples and oranges and if you don't see it you are telling something about yourself..... you decide what that is.

The rec league champions at any local Y could destroy this (and any womens') team.

Exactly. They're both great fruits, but hardly interchangeable.

i've always wondered how he would fair in the men's game.

my guess is not well, he is good at dodging that question.

doubtful, when you consider the talent level at a typical local Y
