#40That's the whole point and why the people in this thread are having a bit of fun. Take a look at who's posting in here. All people who aren't really new to this whole gambling thing. I'd hazard a guess that each of us has looked it up at one point or another out of curiosity. And while I'm very happy JW is currently finding success with it, I can guarantee that if he continues to follow my plays I'll take him to the cleaners inadvertently when yet another reversion to the mean occurs with my bets.Originally posted by QuantumLeapCorrect.
This is a chase system that has proven to be a loser! Feel free to look it up.

Shari
Can U or anyone else describe what a Labourchere is and
how to implement it....
How many lines to use?
How many profit variables to use ?
When to add lines or divide risk within existing variables..
There are subforums here that use this technique and
post everyday ....
The fact I started this thread as to the idea that if you
dont know what a labby is......you are in need to find out is telling ....
Anyway....
wasted too much time on this subject with people
who are looking for their next cig and beer...........
( I dont mean you ...Princess Shari )
Anyhow...

The last line is exactly why I wouldn't use it nor would I want anyone who follows my plays to use it although I obviously have no control over that.Originally posted by SBR_JohnLabouchere System This system is also called the 'Cancellation' system. There are many variations. In its simplest form, A player writes down a series or a set of numbers; say, 1 2 3 4 5 6. The series can be short or long and not necessarily sequential such as 1 1 1 3 3 5 7. The choice of a particular series depends on the type of game you want to apply it to and the odds of the bet. Each number represents the amount in units or chips to bet. You bet the first and last of these numbers. In this example 1 and 6, which totals 7 units. If you win, you cross out the two numbers and bet the next two 'ends' (the outside numbers). In this instance 2 and 5. If you win again you bet on the next two remaining numbers 3 and 4, and if you win that too, you would have made a 'coup' or completed one game. Then you start all over again. If you lose, then you add that one number to the end of the series. Say you lost your first bet of 7 units (1+ 6). Then you add number 7 to the end of the series to look like this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and your next bet would be 8 units (1+ 7). If you won the first bet but lost the second 2 and 5, then the series of numbers would look like this: 2 3 4 5 7. If you work it out, you will see that when the series is completed or when you make a 'coup', there is always a profit. The negative side of this system is that you could end up betting large sums of money even if your initial bet is small.
And part of the explanation as to why I'm against this system can be found in the first post in this thread by Ganchrow.

#46Copied from Ganchrow's first post (I'm too lazy to quote and delete the rest of his post. It's looooooooong.)
"So there you have it. Will was quick to label Dudley a moron because he made a negative EV bet. What Will failed to realize, however, was that this guy certainly had the means to make $15,000 bets, and ultimately wouldn’t have been all that impacted by the result were he to have lost. Will on the other hand, had no business making a $15,000 bet that he stood to lose close to half the time. It didn’t matter that if he made the same bet 10,000 times over he’d almost certainly have come out well ahead, it only took making the bet one time to bankrupt him for the semester and render him incapable of staking any more craps games at all.
Dudley might very well have been foolish for having offered to make the negative EV bet, but Will on the other hand was foolish for having risked such a large chunk of his bankroll on the positive EV bet in the first place. Never mind that losing the bet forced Will to work in the bookstore, never mind that losing the bet forced Will to switch from his Heineken bottles to Milwaukee’s Best cans, losing the bet had probably the worst effect possible on an advantage bettor – decimating his bankroll."
And there you have it JW. Playing any chase system will with all probability lead to a person betting a big wad of cash in order to stay true to that system. Well, what if my super dooper +EV play with a 78% edge craps out? Because they do. Then what? I don't have any money trees in my backyard so I'm going to continue to protect my money while maximising my profit as best as I can.

#47What does everyone define a professional sports bettor as anyhow? Surely someone that makes enough money to live comfortably, purely off of their own sports investing picks and system and nothing else should be considered a pro imo.Comment -

#54If there was no table max and you had a large sum of money compared to your bet unit you could win. The only problem is most people don't have significant sums of money lying around or they will hit the table max and the system will get ruined. That shit is like a ticking time bomb. I've used it before and won in a real life casino but I'm not likely ever going to do it again cause they will take it all back the 1 time that i hit a 7 or 8 losing streak and be over the table max.Comment -

#56Labouchere was designed for roulette, where percentages of likelihood
are well-defined.
Kelly Criterion is more applicable to sports wagering, because it directly connects
likelihood to wager amount. Although I'm not a strict adherent, there is no doubt
that the Kelly Method is in my subconscious when deciding on how to arrange
sporting bets. I believe most of us are apt to wager more on a higher likelihood
winner.
That being said, likelihood is often a mystery in sports.
Odds are there to f with your head !! They influence your perception
of how the game will unfold.. cap first, check odds later !Comment -

#57shari, I figured that's what the thread creator meant. She was referring to her labby and how she's a pro.
If being a pro means I have to use a pseudo-martingale system, I guess I'm not a pro.[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual
