This. If this thing were to go down, it would of happened a LONG time ago. Being a Korean-American, I've followed this situation closely and North Korea has shown spurts of belligerence from time to time and all South Korea does is give a little dance and speech about how there going to retaliate if it happens again. Well, it's happened time and time again and SK continues to stand pat. It's obvious there is no threshold of how many South Korean soldiers or citizens need to die for them to take action and here's why: South Korea has way too much to lose if they were to fight a full-scale war with North Korea. South Korea, who would find unequivocal backing from the United States and other allies, would certainly defeat North Korea in a full-scale conventional war. The question is at what cost? A full-scale war would obviously strain resources and $. Then you have the issue of rebuilding NK and assisting over 20 million belligerent North Koreans who have been brain washed since the day they were born to believe there dear leader is all that and SK and the US are the devil. Essentially, you'll have over 20 million welfare babies invading China and SK and will drain the resources of those 2 countries for the foreseeable future. This is definitely one of the major reasons China has been hesitant of criticizing NK and has advocated restraint.
The entire Korean peninsula was left in ruins after the Korean War and while NK has pretty much remained a shit hole, SK has thrived under democracy. In less than a half century, SK became one of the top economies in the world. It's currently ranked 12th largest economy in the world. LG, Samsung, and Hyundai are some of the most successful companies in the world right now. SK just has too much to lose and will happily stay with the status quo. This is why as belligerent NK has acted over the years, SK has shown unimaginable restraint.

we are struggling in Afghanistan because of all the bombing ... i did my graduation seminar on north korea and my professor made a great point we will only fight one war at a time so while we are there nothing will happen becasue the UN will keep it together. also we will avoid a war with N korea at all cost because of the Sher numbers because china backs n korea. this shit will go on forever between them untill god brings world peace lol nothing will change and untill they have the sack to attack us we will just threaten them!

Media didn't actually hype this at all. The OP is the one that hyped this up by implying the war was imminent. The media was just reporting on a live firing drill being performed by the ROK army on the island that was attacked by NK not too long ago. There was nothing about an imminent war or anything.

I think if you ask some Korean War Veterans they would tell you that the Korean war was nothing but conventional. Korea is cold and with mountains and the same problems our troops faced 60 years ago they would still face them now on the ground regardless of the air and naval superiority.
