I know this site is full of quality gamblers who do their homework, and these are some basic tips, but nonetheless, we can all get excited and forget to stick to the game plan at this time of year. I hate seeing posters get killed on here… hopefully this will help out a few of you.
- Motiviation – spreads can be meaningless in some bowl games… if a team has a distinct advantage by way of motivation, you have to consider this when betting on or against them. The one obvious team that comes to mind this bowl season is Boise St.. They’re pissed about not getting a bcs game and have an underlying motivation that other teams don’t. Try and find the motivational edge in your bowl game picks.
- My plan is to bet with 4 units for the bowl games: 25, 50, 75, 100, nothing more, nothing less. For a lot of you, it’s going to be business as usual and you likely have a money management system that has been working for you for years… but for others, who bet sporadically, blindly, etc., at least do yourself a favor and keep your bets in check by sticking to a system. This is the time of year where bookies win a lot and amateur gamblers lose a lot, and most of that has to do with gamblers who just can’t keep their bet sizes in check.
- If there is a time of year to tail a capper or a system, consider doing it now… the reality is that a lot of cappers actually do do there homework, but you have to do your research. This forum, and the net is filled with information overload, and can be overwhelming, but if you really want to set your self up for success, spend time on seeing what is working and what is not, what cappers have had an edge lately, what cappers haven’t... it’s free for fuks sake, don’t be lazy… If you do this, it will only help your ultimate goal… to make money.
- Don’t overlook the simple things… injuries and illnesses. Most players are ready to go for these games, but you never know what kind of weird shit can happen in the last few days before the big game. Try your best to keep up with any sudden illness or minor injury to team’s big player(s).
- Bet straight bets on bowl games. Fuk the teasers and the parlays… this is the time of year you should test your straight bet capping abilities for what they’re worth. You’ve had a whole season to evaluate and follow your teams and should be sharper than you have all season because of it… so trust your straight bet instincts and see where it takes you. IMO these games all have too many variables to parlay or tease. Straight is the way to go.
