Bill Cowher the next head coach for the Houston Texans?

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pitt. Gazette, it is likely. Cowher is perfect for this team. A team on the brink of the next level, I think he can get us there.

As we reported on Sunday, former Steelers coach Bill Cowher isn't a candidate to coach the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowher could end up in Texas, after all

As we reported on Sunday, former Steelers coach Bill Cowher isn’t a candidate to coach the Dallas Cowboys. But there are two teams in Texas, and the other team in Texas could be looking for a new coach come January.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reiterated on Tuesday that the Lone Star State has become the most likely destination for Cowher.
“I told you awhile back that Texas is his most likely landing spot — Houston, Texas,” Bouchette writes. “And last night’s game made him even more inviting for those Texans.”

Some may think that coach Gary Kubiak will survive despite the team’s disappointing 5-8 record, since he received a contract extension last year. But so did Brad Childress in Minnesota.
A move to Cowher also could mean the end of G.M. Rick Smith’s run. Five years ago, it was believed that owner Bob McNair opted not to fire coach Dom Capers and G.M. Charley Casserly simultaneously, since doing so would have underscored that both hires were mistakes. As a result, Capers was fired and Casserly “resigned” after the next draft.

Don’t be shocked if a similar approach is applied in 2011, with Smith sticking around through April before stepping aside.

Don't be surprised if Mike Mularkey of the Falcons ends up as head coach of the Texans because of his ties to Matt Schaub when he was with the Falcons.

He will not do good in today's NFL..

Jon Gruden is the guy you want..

He will get a team to the Superbowl before Cowher...

Your dad is absolutely right. Kubiak was with the Broncos organization for 10+ years. Now there is a head coaching spot available, and speculation around here is that it might be enough intrest for Kubiak to take the reigns in Denver. 75% of the fans in Houston want Gary outta here.
              Here's proof: www.firegarykubiak.com

I was at the Monday night game last night, and I have never seen such a hands off coach in my life.
Its 1st and goal on the 4 yard line, and where is coach Kubiak? He's on the other side of the field on the Texans 40 yard line not even watch the play??

That was simply amazing to me and it consisted throughout the big plays in the entire 2nd half.

big steelers fan, but I actually like the texans so that would be fine with me if he started up there. They deserve a good run in the playoffs.

Here's another report from ESPN Insider on Cowher:

We recently speculated that free agent head coach Bill Cowher may well end up as the next head coach of the Houston Texans by this offseason.

Lending some credence to our speculation is a report from Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from "someone in the know," who indicated that the Texans would be the best fit for Cowher. Per Bouchette, Cowher wants "a good QB in place, good ownership and a chance to win."

Check, check and check. This could get interesting.

Tuesday afternoon, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter emailed in with his take on the Cowher-to-Texans rumors:

"Understandable why people would connect the two. It's logical. But logical hardly makes it likely."

I think you are right double....It would be great if he came to Houston but Carolina is closer to his roots. It may come down to money but I would take him here in Houston.....Although I would like to have Gruden even more.

this is a perfect fit for all parties.

good for the texans, they need that coach to push them over the hump.

I actually hope he does not come to Carolina, I think they or any other team is better off going for the next up and coming coach. You don't see many old coaches come back after being out of the game for a few years and have that same success as they once did. Carolina tried it with Seifert years ago the Redskins tried it with Gibbs.

Totally agree with you however if the Texans get Gruden he is still pretty young and I agree with what he says plus he's already won a couple of super bowls and can be a motivator. Kubiak is ok but is not a good motivater and seems a little lost and does not manage the game clock very well. Probably will come down to money.

I used to think that Cowher to Carolina was a lock. The franchise is in such disarray now, though, that I don't know. Andrew Luck at qb could make it appealing.

The old man has lost his marbles, the team has went downhill since he fired his two sons. Last week was the first time he has addressed the fans about the season. He is so wrappped up in the CBA and making money he has lost sight of what makes him that money. I really think he is one of the few owners that hopes there is no football next season. If Cowher still wants that job he should go for the GM position also. I think that would give him a better chance of turning the team around.

I agree, I think Chucky will be spitting fire even after he is dead. The Texans are a very good team and the talent is there, Gruden could be the guy to take them to the next level.
