Guys i got a brother who is 7 years older than me who I am not real close with. Same mother and father. Because of the age difference he went off to college when I was 11 and we never lived under the same roof after that. We have became a little closer in the last 5 years with our parents getting older. see him two or three times a yr at holidays. He had a great job making 10x what i make a year. CFO of a hedge fund company in NYC. Laid off in 2007. Within the last 5 yrs of becoming closer we started exchanging bday gifts. Now keep in mind he has enough money to probably not work until 2020 and be fine. Fukkin guy hasn't given me a gift in return the last 3 yrs. Now if i stop getting him a gift it looks petty but why should i get him a gift when i am not getting one in return. Any input is appreciated.

im a big charecter guy. Meaning, it doesnt matter the result, i will do what i feel is right. If you are a giving person who values family, then keep doing it. Dont let him change who you are inside. Sure it sucks but get him something small and save money, but keep your integrityComment -
My Brother is probably worth 10-15 million maybe more, we don't give gifts to each other. I don't even call him on his Birthday...I don't give gifts to anyone in my family. I do receive gifts from one of my Sister's though, nice ones.המוסד

Give if it makes you feel good.when you give it comes back to you. Also remember that giving doesn't have to be a tangible thing time is the best gift and has the most meaning and is also the cheapest, call him up on the phone or visit. Always be a cheerful giver and don't give just in order to recieve.Comment -
It really depends on you, if you want to keep it up, never give a gift with a thought of what would i get later down the road. With that said maybe look towards something off the wall, like a cigar of the month club, or humidor if he does smoke. Or a high end bottle of booze. Not to spend too much time on it but something that he wont have.Comment -

Get him something like you always did. Not getting him something is almost like saying "I have noticed you haven't been getting me anything." He's your brother...just get him something like you have been, and dont stress over it.Comment -
