Yeah it's completely crazy. Seafood is a big thing to eat here on Xmas and a lot of people have barbecues. Not really any turkeys cruising around down here so they ship them in but I guess a lot of people find them too expensive and who really wants to heat up your kitchen when it's well over 100 degrees.

Saw a snow storm in Cleveland on the news tonight and some guy whose car was stuck had a Santa hat on. Almost made me cry so I changed the channel.

I have some cousins in Australia. They are always barbecuing for Christmas. Shari I'm not sure what city you are in Australia but all the major cities have very nice ethnic food you can try for Christmas. I myself think the Western Christmas dinner is overated. Eating turkey and ham with fixings every year is kinda boring.

Oh, and forgot to mention. Apparently between matches of MW2 I started texting my girlfriend. At least she was entertained and not offended.

At some point I forgot that we had been texting and just went back to my grenade launcher on MW2. It was the only weapon I could reasonably use considering I saw 5 enemies whenever there was only one.

Yah it is weird having Christmas in summer time. Hot outside, few clouds in the sky, everybody going to the beach. I do miss having Thanksgiving/Christmas in the states.

Back in when I was in college, I used to work at a small motel. Nobody wanted to work on christmas day of course. So I worked by myself. Watching tv with some chinese food in the small office.

Like other posters have said, you're failing to realize that you're not alone. You're with your little son. That's all that you need. I'm surprised that you would even consider that "being alone". Some people have no animals, no family no children and are really alone. (which isn't the end of the world). And I should clarify that when I started this thread I had no intention of discussing my situation. I was just genuinely curious as to what people do and whether they choose to be alone or it's due to circumstance. In reality I do realise that as long as my son is there I'll never be alone and all that matters. I was just talking more of the big family Xmas perspective with the big dinner and opening presents around the tree thing. Happy holidays everyone.

Thanks foldie but the last person that got my number on here to verify I'm a woman is apparently too scared to use it. And I'm actually just curious with this thread. Since I'm stuck here for Xmas now I'm debating between spending it with friends and their family and worrying that I'll be imposing or just saying stuff it and spending it alone with my son since he's too young too understand it all anyway.

how close are the friends? do they have kids? are the friends with your son?

if so . then go for it.. why not.. have a nice dinner.. bring a nice bottle of wine over.. and maybe a gift.. something for the house.. that they can all enjoy...

iF not.. realize your family is all you need.. Plan some fun events or games for you and your son.. make sure he knows that he has all your attention and that today it's all you and him..

Yeah, I can imagine that would suck a bit. Even though we have a few invitations to go places I am just really dreading the whole watch other people open presents and try to make you feel included when you know you really aren't thing. Even worse if they do what my parents used to do when they would welcome anyone who would be alone to our house and overcompensate by buying heaps of gifts for them to open that were never appropriate. I just don't want to experience those awkward moments where people are pretending to care when you open your gifts or you're having to explain to late arriving guests who you are again.

leave before that ...in latin culture its the last thing done the night of christmas eve.. in most other cultures its done christmas day so you dont have to worry about it..

don't let this be the reason why you don't go...

what would be cool is if you go.. and then leave when the family is doing their gift exchange.. and while you are away.. have a neighbor or someone you can count on place gifts in your house.. so you come home to surprise..
