#42Cold weather with blustery conditions. I fully expect the defenses to show up and offenses to become a bit more predictable. Winds will be gusty and will affect down field throws. I like the better defensive team and the better running team in this matchup. Look at the games in the cold weather with good defensive teams/better running from yesterday and especially last night (NYG, BALT/PITT). The better defense won. Jets and the under.
in fact, a lot of times. bad weather leads to more offense. For example, say a receiver slips in the snow, what's the end result?? just another down. Say a defender slips in the snow, what's the end result? a lot of times it's a touchdown throwComment -

#48Jets beating Pats earlier this year actually hurts them here. Belichick is 5-0 ATS when coaching with same season revenge since taking over New England job.
In other words, nobody sweeps the Pats.Comment -

#50there is no real evidence that poor weather conditions lead to less offense in Football

Wind certainly does lead to less effective passing games, and less expected points from FG's.Comment -

#52I understand where you're coming from with this, but you're not reading the right studies or not doing your own research properly if you believe in that blanket statement. Different conditions certainly affect the way games are played, and different teams are affected differently by certain conditions. Wind certainly does lead to less effective passing games, and less expected points from FG's.
the wind on field goals does have a small effect, but the snow really has no effect. Remember when the Pats scored 59 points in a half last year against tenesse in that snow??
realistically speaking, you are crazy to take the under here considering that you have 2 teams who are a combined 17-5 in terms of over/unders on the season
nearly every home game for the pats this year has gone over the line and nearly every road game for the jets has gone over the line
the projected score in this game is really about 28-27 Patriots which would go way over the lineComment -

I agree with the over, but you really think the Pats covering this spread is that easy?
how many big time prime time matchups are ever decided by more than 3-4 points??
hell, look at the last 2 weeks, Atlanta/Green Bay and Pittsburg/Ravens were both decided by 3 pointsLast edited by brahmabull117; 12-06-10, 01:27 PM.Comment -

#63I'd like to hear a better reason why the Pats will win than Tom Brady. Remember how Sanchez outplayed Brady in the earlier matchup? Just because Brady's put up some ridiculous numbers on some opponents, I don't see how that equates to him being a superior QB for the same matchup in which he was outperformed earlier in the year.
Just like last night's Steelers / Ravens matchup - I don't see either quarterback taking the game over. Neither of these teams are going to give up multiple huge plays, in my opinion. I see more of a lot of 3rd and short situations, and field position battles.
It's hard to think about the Patriots and not imagine Brady hitting Welker for 10 and 20 yards at will ... and hitting a few deep throws and this game quickly getting out of hand.
Just sayin -- seems more likely that the Jets get some d-line penetration, hit Brady in the mouth a few times, and that this turns into more of a physical football game than a shootout. And in that type of game, I like the Jets.
Jets ML for a dime for me. GL.Comment -

#64Why I like the Jets tonight
As crazy as it sounds for Bellicheck and Brady to be swept by a division opponent at home..... I see it happening tonight.
Bellicheck's strength is figuring out teams tendencies and exploiting them. The problem with that is that the Jet's don't have any huge tendencies. They play such a basic scheme on both offense and defense that their is really nothing to "out scheme."
I know espn would have you believe that Rex Ryan's blitz stunts are so intricate and that's why his defenses are so successful. While that's partly true, the real reason his defenses are successful are the players he has on the field, and the perfect fit they are to his defense.
The pat's new scheme to go 2 te many times and play small ball underneath plays right into the jets hands. Neither one of the Pat's outside threats of Tate or Deion Branch will have an impact with the two outside corners of the Jets.
The simple fact of the matter is that not many teams can cover a plethora of wr's like the Jet's can. This is not the zone blitz scheme of the steelers that you can find holes in.
The jet's plan is simple make Tom Brady spread them out, throw 50 x a game, and hit him again, and again and again.

Wind for a running team? No big deal. For a throwing team, you better believe it's gonna have some ramifications.Comment -

#68UNDER. The Jets are going to try and run the ball down the Patriots throats and dare them to stop it. I don't see too many quick scores unless they occur off of turnovers or returns... but both coaches will be EXTREMELY careful tonight. They will take a chance here and there but to no avail IMO. The only way this game goes over is if the Pats offense goes wild... Rex will not let that happen. Brady will have to deal with pressure on EVERY down! I think that the Pats end up winning but 44.5 is a GIFT. Take the Under.
