Is it acceptable to tip clerks?

I want to toss a few helpful clerks a tip, nothing huge about $100 each. I figured I'd come here first and see if this is a definite 'no no' or if it's acceptable sometimes. Thoughts please.

Its acceptable which is what you asked but by no means is it common. I've always felt though that if you are flush and feel some one has done you right, why not share the wealth.
