    Xbox Red Ring of Death
Any of you know a way to fix the red ring of death on 360, without having to send it in to Microsoft and wait 6 weeks to get it back?

I just threw mine away when Microsoft said 6 week return for red ring of death. Went and bought a ps3....in a way I wish I hadn't thrown it out, but it was spur of the moment.

          wait wait my man

search it in youtube, it is not that hard to fix. The towel trick worked for me. If that doesnt taking it apart and taking out the magnet that causes the redring is not that hard. You just need to make sure you keep track/order of everything you take out.

Towel trick is bullshit. It just resets it. It will happen again.

Go buy another one from walmart. Put the broken one in the new box and then return it. You get a new xbox for free.

this sounds good but aren't the serial numbers still barcoded? from what i remember there is a hole in the box and they scan the actual system when you buy it (i could be wrong)

microsoft repeatedly lied to me and others about this problem, then when they finally accepted them for repairs they claim i tampered with it (which i didn't) and wouldn't fix it.

not worth the $200 of aggravation, just buy a new one imho and use AMX-they extend 1 year warranties from 2 to 3 years

I've messed with 3 xbox 360 RROD issues. 1 was repairable, the other two were not. Used new heat sink, new brackets, drilled new holes, applied new thermal paste, I've tried it all. Some of the systems just get plain damaged (especially the very first few hardware revs). I did have success with one like I said, but it took time and money. Unfortunately, for most people I would recommend just buying a new one.

PS3 has a problem with the blu-ray laser. I've seen several destroyed and the only way to fix is complete laser replacement which costs over $100. Again, in that situation, I've told people to replace the full system.

This, however, does not make extended warranties worth it. It is a numbers game just like gambling, if you get a bad unit that is unfortunate, but still not worth paying the extended warranty, which is basically an insurance policy with very large -EV.
