You are know free to go down in flames
Southwest airlines slogan: You are now free to move about the country. They forgot about telling you, it might be in a raging ball of fire.

    Article:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- -- Discount air carrier Southwest Airlines flew thousands of passengers on aircraft that federal inspectors said were "unsafe" as recently as last March, according to detailed congressional documents obtained by CNN.

Congressional documents show Southwest Airlines flew thousands of passengers on aircraft deemed "unsafe" by federal inspectors.

Documents submitted by FAA inspectors to congressional investigators allege the airline flew at least 117 of its planes in violation of mandatory safety checks. In some cases, the documents say, the planes flew for 30 months after government inspection deadlines had passed and should have been grounded until the inspections could be completed.

The planes were "not airworthy," according to congressional air safety investigators.

Calling it "one of the worst safety violations" he has ever seen, Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minnesota, is expected to call a hearing as soon as possible to ask why the airline put its passengers in danger.

Southwest Airlines, which carried more passengers in the United States than any other airline last year, declined comment.

What's the over/under on posters who make it to the bash using Southwest?

I always check southwest's website when making reservations but I can almost always find cheaper flights somewhere else... I also hate the first come gets to pick a seat deal... I like waiting till everyone else is on board so I can just get to seat and sit down... **** fighting for seat with some old women with her three bratty grandkids... I'm also a smoker so flying and airports are already unpleasant enough for me....

That being said the next time I fly I'm sure I will check out SW website again and if I can get a good discount I will be flying Southwest.... God I hate being so cheap...

Interesting report, especially when you consider that SW has had what?, one fatal accident in 37 years, and just one fatality in that which was a plane scooting off the runway in Chicago a couple of years back...and it wasn't even a passenger but some poor kid in a car that the plane eventually ran over. I know part of their low prices has always been they fly just one kind of plane (737s), so that just makes it cheaper to keep any fleet going. But it sounds like, if this report is true, they've been pushing their luck.

What I don't understand is if a plane, any plane is due for an inspection before it gets into the air, why do we wait 30 months? How is it even possible for that plane to go more than a month extra in service?
