LSU already has a 5 star QB committed for the 09 class

LSU picked up one of the nation's top athletic quarterbacks Monday evening when Russell Shepard of Houston-Cypress Ridge gave Les Miles his verbal commitment.

"I committed about ten minutes ago," Sheppard said. "I love the school to the max."

Shepard (6-2, 185, 4.4) is being recruited by LSU running backs coach Larry Porter.

"It wasn't a tough decision," Shepard said. "The way I looked at it is why wait if I know where I am going to go.

"It was a hands down easy decision for me."

Shepard says that Miles was taken aback by his commitment.

"They are excited and I just wanted to get it over with because this was getting hectic," Shepard said. "I wanted to be able to focus on my team this year and when I get to LSU focus on LSU."

"Coach Miles said, what, what did you say," Shepard said imitating Miles' reaction. "His whole family was happy about it and I talked to all of them."

Shepard is currently rated as the nation's No. 4 overall prospect. He finished his junior season with 2,300 yards of total offense and 26 touchdowns.

The Texas blue-chipper is a mid-term graduate and will be able to participate in spring camp of 2009.

I believe USC has 5 of the top 100 players for next years class already. For anyone to suggest that they don't pay their players is laughable. Not that they're the only school to do that, but they pay well and in many forms im certain.

I agree. I know many on here are Trojan fans, but I defiantely am not one of them. Just amazing they keep reloading, never rebuilding. Money talks.

I don't know about that Mo. It makes a lot of sense for these kids to want to go to USC. Who wouldn't want to go to school in Southern Cal if given the choice, not to mention one of the best programs/coaches in the country. It's possible they pay, but there are plenty of other reasons for wanting to go there.

There are some reasons, but its not greatly different than many other schools. Their facilities aren't as good as some and while their location is nice, its not as if they have a campus like UCLA has. Pete Carrol wins with great talent, but also loses, each year, to teams with much less talent. Its hard to understand how they don't beat teams by 40+ more often, the other teams out west don't recruit year in and year out.
