LSU picked up one of the nation's top athletic quarterbacks Monday evening when Russell Shepard of Houston-Cypress Ridge gave Les Miles his verbal commitment.
"I committed about ten minutes ago," Sheppard said. "I love the school to the max."
Shepard (6-2, 185, 4.4) is being recruited by LSU running backs coach Larry Porter.
"It wasn't a tough decision," Shepard said. "The way I looked at it is why wait if I know where I am going to go.
"It was a hands down easy decision for me."
Shepard says that Miles was taken aback by his commitment.
"They are excited and I just wanted to get it over with because this was getting hectic," Shepard said. "I wanted to be able to focus on my team this year and when I get to LSU focus on LSU."
"Coach Miles said, what, what did you say," Shepard said imitating Miles' reaction. "His whole family was happy about it and I talked to all of them."
Shepard is currently rated as the nation's No. 4 overall prospect. He finished his junior season with 2,300 yards of total offense and 26 touchdowns.
The Texas blue-chipper is a mid-term graduate and will be able to participate in spring camp of 2009.
