He could diminish quite a bit and still not be anywhere near done. It happens to all Tennis players eventually.

give the guy a break. he cant and doesnt win every tournament. he is in the same position as tiger. they are expected to win every time they play. when they dont, people start the "washed up" or "past his prime" talk. stupid. no shame in losing to murray. he will be a top 5 guy before too long imo.Comment -
He's nowhere near washed up! Federer will continue to play great tennis, but he will become more beatable than he has been in the past for two reasons: Age and the fact that tennis is a very metally tough game. There is no one on the court but the player and that alone can challenge anyone. Even Tiger has his caddy to talk to if he is mentally down during a match.Comment -

This is similar to what people said about Tiger Woods a few years ago in golf when he wasn't winning every tournament. When the chips are down in the Grand Slams, he'll be there and that's what counts.Comment -
The difference between Tiger and Federer is that in golf you can be 70 and still play at a high level.
In tennis, you have such a small window to peak. Federer has probably peaked---I mean you can't do much better than 12 Grand Slam titles in 5 years. However, even if he does "slip" a bit he is still an elite player.
However, I wasn't too impressed with his comments about Murray's game today after the match. Perhaps they were taken out of context or Federer miscommunicated since he was speaking in English, but they came off as very bad/sore loser and really R.F. is one of the very few professional athletes I have respect for.Comment -
did you watch the way djokovic wiped the court with roger in the aussie open semi? if so, you would understand why i am so concerned as a federer fan. he has lost matches, but not like that. he got destroyed by djokovic, and then murray just beat him. he will prolly lose again to nadal in the french which means wimbledon is there for him again, but by the time us open gets here it could mean trouble, i am huge federer fan who has not missed a grand slam semi or final of his in four years, there is cause for concern, this simple fact cannot be deniedComment -
I follow tennis alot and think that these dominating players (Federer, Sampras, Steffi Graf) can make you lose a little interest in the sport... The guy is a god at tennis, I would just like to see some more disparity...The Jimmy Connors, McEnroe ,Borg years where 3-4 players dominated were just glory years for the sport...Thats why I like the clay game so much always a wide range of contendersComment -

he is always very gracious as you say, so this is surprising. he was very gracious when novak beat him, but he got smoked in straight sets in that aussie semi so he had to be gracious. not much to say when you get smoked like that. he speaks fluent english so he knows what he's saying, not really much of a chance that anythin was lost in translationComment -

Federer is not a classy loser....never has been. He used to have about the most fired up temper on the tour years ago. He's been winning so much you rarely see it come out (save his clay court frustration), but it'll be interesting to see how he bows out from the game in terms of both timing and class.

he admitted to not being 100% against djok. he didnt look good that whole tourney. he took weeks off and did nothing. came back knowing he would be really rusty and lost to a top 10 guy in the world. it really doesnt matter to me that it was in the 1st round or the finals. nothing like traveling around the world to play when you really dont want to be there. you could tell by his post interview that he didnt want to be there in the first place. he will be back to normal soon imo.Comment -
He really started declining last year. He's not done, but he will never be as dominate as he once was. I think he can still win a few majors, but not in his typical dominate fashion.Comment -
He's 5 and 2 this year. Both losses came when he was coming into the tournament without any match play. If he goes slam less this year, then his dominance is probably over. He could still win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open this year and still hold his #1 ranking.Comment
