I don't see Matt Weiters getting in enough time to draw much attention from the voters this year, mofome. Granted, the somewhat fragile Ramon Hernandez is in front of him, but he'd have to get the call by late May and get into 90+ games from that point on to draw enough attention in 2008.
The AL East is loaded with AL ROY candidates, from Evan Longoria in Tampa to Joba Chamberlain in New York to Clay Buchholz in Boston, plus if Adam Jones puts it together that might be your top Baltimore rookie candidate right there. Assuming he still qualifies, and I believe he does, my pick is going to be Jacoby Ellsbury with the Red Sox.
In the NL I like Cubs tandem Geovany Soto and Kosuke Fukudome (though the BBWAA folks have soured on electing Japanese rookies, a shame since the award is named for a man who broke cultural barriers). A lot of people like Andy LaRoche with the Dodgers, but will Joe Torre bench Nomar Garciaparra in favor of LaRoche? And many are singing praises for Jay Bruce in Cincinnati even though I'm not so sure he will get the necessary playing time this year.
My NL pick is Reds first baseman Joey Votto who should send Scott Hatteberg to the bench by early May and is very capable of a 20+ HR, 85+ RBI.

I was really hoping the Os would land Votto with Homer and Cueto, but those talks cooled after the Reds acquired Volquez. I don't think Weiters will get the shot to do much this year, but i wouldn't be surprised to see him in the running in 09, word out of Baltimore has been thats Matt has been more than they had expected.
As you said, the al east is loaded with youth and Jones is probably the Os most dynamic talent even as a rookie. He may not have the overall game that Markakis does, but hes ceiling is said to be pretty high. Evan, Ellsbury, Joba and Clay are all great talents, my favorite in that group is probably Longoria just because I have yet to see him play and the hype surrounding him has caught my attention. If joba comes out of the pen all year he may have a tough time staying in the running. Any of the kids that the As got from AZ going to have a shot? I don't know that any are projected to do a lot in 08.
I think my leading nl candidate is Rasmus and my Al guy is going to be Evan.

I know clay is a rookie, and I am pretty certain joba didn't pitch enough last year to lose his rookie status.

6-1, 230 lbs is fat? He is a catcher he doesnt need to be in the best shape anyway. He used to be a fat fukk but lost tons of weight and that is a huge reason why he has improved his game overall

He hit .340 in 43 games last year in 103 at bats with 2 HRs and 14 RBI, after he was acquired from the Red Sox on July 31. Right now he is hitting .409, with 1 HR, 2 SB, and 3 RBI. He is proving to the Red Sox that he is not a fourth outfielder like they thought he was. I mean right now he has more production than Coco Crisp, and he can play Left, Right, and Center field.
Who is he?
David Murphy-AL rookie of the year.

It's gonna be a Reds player. Either Cueto or Jay Bruce if he gets enough ABs.

He's been playing first almost exclusively in the minors. Reds gave him a look-see in the outfield for the first time last year.

Fukudome is going to be a .270 hitter with average slugging #'s once the league sees him a couple times.
No way he will be successful against lefties, or righties with a tailing fastball.
His vision is hampered, too, considering his eyes don't open more than 25% of capacity.

I need Votto to play an inning in the OF soon so I can use him there.
