actuelly, economically China has the upper hand. this incident has already helped China to ease the pressure of raise yuan issue and drove away some of the unwanted hot money.
and theres no way the US can or have the guts to just freeze the debt.

BUT, we can get everything they make else where or produce it ourselves like the days of old. If they were unable to export to the West their economy and government would collapse. You think its bad here when 10 million folks are out of work in the US, imagine 1 billion becoming unemployed nearly over night.

And how do you plan to replace the 500 billion worth of exports to China? Because if we ban the Chinese imports they would ban the US imports.

China already has a slight small-ish inflation going on right now. and u CANT just tell ppl "hey, im banning China's export, dont buy stuff from them". this is not the 70s when US and Russia make decisions for the UN anymore.
the US IS powerless against China's import and export, China controls the market of rare earth elements, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, etc. which IS crucial to high tech developement. One simply ban on exporting those to others country, u wouldnt even be able to buy a lcd screen. not to menetion the pressure on the US from other countries who also is in needs for those elements.
also, incase of internal chaos like u said, 1 billion out of job overnight, that would be a unsolveble problem for others, war will be the solution for that, just go fuk up Japan, and it will be xmas in China.
