I guess Taylor Martinez did get his ass chewed out

I would rather see that than a coach clapping after the player screws up. Pelini is a hell of a coach. These kids now have attention spans of about 4 seconds and need their asses chewed out from time to time. I've had it done to me and I do it sometimes now. It gets them to concentrate more on what they are doing if done right. Praise them when they do good and correct them when they screw up. Sometimes you have to do it emphatically.

the chancellor was not happy about this from what i've heard, there is a line, pelini did this to multiple players in this game, you can't chew every player out for every little mistake

There is a story circulating on Rivals Radio that Martinez was texting while in the locker room being treated for his injury........that's right, he was texting during his game against A&M.

If that is true-----the Pellini should have kicked his ass off the team.

They are athletes who are getting a free education and room and food and other perks. The coach has the players best interest at heart. I agree with what Seer said above. Some players respond to this and some go into a hole. You have to know your player.

Pelini is a great coach and knows what he is doing.

I coached my daughters team in ASA competitive softball and let me tell ya...there were clowns out there yelling at girls like that

you dont have to be a punk to get your point across...coaches like that were abused as children and now they take it out on their players

the end result is the players quit because respect is a 2 way street

dropping F-bombs, calling you a puXXy, etc...
it seperates the strong from the weak.

Reread the above. It's easy to see who has played football in this thread and who hasn't. I've spent damn near my entire life playing and coaching. I've watched Bowden, Saban, Miles, and other coaches who have won national championships at their practices when I was a guest and I have kids scattered at all kinds of schools. I've played under men who have coached their entire lives. I promise you I can tell you what works and what doesn't and it is a combination of the above. It is in kids' nature(and most all people) to stay in a comfort zone and not push themselves too hard. It is actually basic human nature. Sometimes you have to get the point across in different way and this is one. To get the best out of somebody sometimes you have to give them a good tongue lashing. I would bet that nobody around that program cares more about that kid than Polini and you people have no idea what that kid is like, what the situation was, or what it takes to motivate him. If you aren't there and have all of the facts then you don't know.

you dont need to belittle someone to challenge them...thats letting your personal life interfere with coaching

coaches like that are hell bent on control...translate that into life and you have someone who needs to run everything and control everything and everyone around them...once something happens that they cant control they lose it

how do you know he was belittling him? were you there? He could have been telling him to NOT do something or look for something. Sure he was yelling but I doubt he was over there telling him he was ugly and fat.

Who said he was quitting the team? Years ago Bobby Knight popped a kid under the chin for not listening during a game. The player and his parents both came out and defended knight. He is in college, he isn't a kid. Jesus, get over it.

I live in Nebraska so I guess I know more info but he was in the training room texting his dad.

couldnt agree more Seer. My comment above didnt attach the quote but I was saying he should be gone in regards to Martin's statement about Martinez texting in the locker room. I heard that today too and if its true Martinez should be a goner. This is football. Go find me a coach that has never got in the face of one of his players and ill show you a coach that has never won big time football.

I had the same.....a former Marine. He was insane. We did grass drills for the entire half time one game.

I've had my helmet almost ripped off by a coach. It didn't damage my self esteem or any of that sensitive crap. As a matter of fact, it turned the light on for me and that was the turning point for me as a player. I will never forget it and actually am very glad he did it. It got my attention. When my father whipped my ass with his belt when I was young I didn't call the department of human services and tell them that I should have been given a timeout. I quit making the mistakes. It helped me out in the long run too.

and thats good for some players, i would be the same as you actually, but there's no reason to do it over and over to players who aren't going to respond to it. if martinez is almost quitting the team, pelini should know his players well enough to know he won't respond to it
