More dominant in prime... MJ or Tiger?

tiger has much much better concentration skills , but roger is a better coordinated conditoned athelete = both are GREAT , tiger has better personality too! along with micheal jordon = i like the work ethic of them all == be so good so you dont have to work a real job

MJ is more dominant. He did it two different runs and nobody was even close to stopping him. "The King" isn't even close to as good as MJ was.

Woods is Dominant, but he's had problems before too. If you think about it this way. How many of the golfers he competes with are in nearly as good physical shape as he is? 1% other... His main competition is out of shape 40 year old white men, who look like alabama slammer guy riding his lawnmower on the weekend with his beer in his hand. C'mon...

I do think you're comparing apples to oranges here in many ways because one played a team sport and one plays an individual sport. For example, as much above his contemporaries that I feel Tiger Woods is, look at his 'championships' in team play like the Ryder Cup. In some ways, I would almost compare Tiger to Ted Williams; both might be the best at their craft that ever was, yet they can't win a team event on their own.

Still, I'll throw in a vote with the majority so far and say Woods over Michael Jordan. Not going to take anything away from Jordan, and his combined career stats and rings certainly speak volumes. But in my lifetime, I don't think I've ever seen anyone who could play so far above his competition as Tiger. I might even throw Wayne Gretzky in second ahead of Jordan though I realize that will bring out the Mario Lemieux folks and all the talk about Gretzky's size/physical toughness being a drawback.

Looking at individual sports, I'd say Babe Ruth was still the king in baseball, Jordan's the man in pro basketball, Tiger in the 'individual sports' (golf, tennis, surfing, rodeo and underwater basket weaving) and I'm not even going to delve into football because you really have to divide that into offense and defense I feel.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing and being a hockey neanderthal in so many ways, I always go straight to concede since the basis for my opinion is mostly in just Gretzky's amazing stats. Plus, I think Gretzky got more pub than Mario, and part of that was Gretzky was making his name when we would see more hockey coverage on ESPN in their network infancy. And here's another reason why I think his stats were so far ahead of his contemporaries: I know of several fantasy hockey leagues back in the mid-to-late 80s who banned Gretzky from their league because no matter what team you put him on, that team won. I can't argue who had the better hockey game, but as far as who was so far above their contemporaries, who made the most noise, Gretzky did it like the Babe, Jordan and Tiger are doing it.

Oh, I would definitely agree with your last sentence there. Mario, you might say, played Ted Williams to Gretzky's Babe Ruth. I think Mario had the all-around better game (and had to do more of it himself) but nobody did what Gretzky did better than Gretzky.

Plus, Mario gets bonus points for saving hockey in Pittsburgh not once, not twice, but at least three times.

Stupid question. I hate these questions that ESPN continuously puts out there. You can't accurately compare the achievements of two individuals, particularly when one played a team game, when golf and basketball are entirely different sports.

I say MJ, in his prime he won 6 titles in a row. That is so hard to do in the NBA. He would have won 8 in a row had he not left to play baseball for a couple years

Only guy that can come close is the way Babe Ruth dominated baseball in the 20's.

Or maybe Federer and Samprass when they were dominating!

Ruth was the most dominate player hands down of any sport. He hit more HRs by himself then most teams.
