Since the begining of time as I know it, I would say that I'm down about $75,000.
I was really crazy in the '90's with all kinds of huge bets that I shouldn't have made. Since about '00 however, I'm up about $12,000. Eventually I'm going to get back to the $0.00 mark but it will probably take me another 20 years to do it.

Since I started I can't honestly answer that.
That being said I'm up over the last 6 years playing poker. I seriously started sportsbetting again last year and am up about 15K during that time.
In the NFL I have had 2 losing years since 1984. I did have 3 breakeven years (+/- $100) in that time as well.
The early 80's I did well at the ponies but don't follow them close anymore.
With the exception of NFL I did almost no gambling from 1987 to 1992.
I can't be more exact because I honestly don't know. For years I never kept records of any kind but I know when I was flying to Atlantic city almost every weekend I'm sure I went through at least $20K to $40K over an 18 month period.

Bingo. Recreational poker games are a constant source of income, especially when I lived in Dallas. Good god, there are some SMU dudes with serious bankrolls just looking to throw it away. Since I started sports gambling, I'd break it down like this:
Horses: Down
Hounds: Waaay Up (strangely I don't bet them any more... quit going to the track about the time my wife got pregnant)
NBA: Way Up
NCAABB: Down
NCAAFB: maybe about even
NFL: Up thanks to the 2002-3 season (could have been the 03-04 season) . It was a goldmine and I was reckless. On one Sunday, I hit an 8 team parlay (no ML's) and a 6 teamer. Swear to god, I even remember that I needed Seattle to pull some crazy sh1t in the last seconds of a game (I want to say it was in December) to complete the 7 teamer and I was at my grandma's house in Arkansas watching the game updates on espn.com via dial up. I caught every break possible that year and had absolutely no money management system. Just caught a series of great breaks. Seems like I hit a 3-team parlay every week.
MLB: Up
Boxing: through the roof up
I'm 29 and haven't had a corporate job since April '05. I got my MBA last year (on scholarship) and am job hunting, but between my sports wagering and the easy rake at friendly poker games, I'm floating by rather comfortably. It CAN be done, fellas.
Interesting side-note: I'm down considerably in Vegas. I'd be much better off if I stayed out of that damn place. I've had a couple really good Black Jack runs and a couple 3AM craps runs, but I get too damn drunk and never know when to walk away.

Boxing: Up considerably
NFL: Down
MLB: Up
NBA: Up small
CFB: Up
CBB: Up small (was up substantially the last three years... this season's been a nightmare)
Horses: Down small (rarely play the ponies)
Poker: Down online, up with local games
I'd consider myself a pretty serious recreational player. Been doing this for 4 years, and yes, I'm up over that time.

Seems like many have lost a lot more in their younger years, when it would seem they had less to their name, than they did when they were older and more established.
Down bigtime age 20-30
down a lot 30-40
now 40- lossing my ass
Lifetimez? I don;t want to count since I could buy a house with it!

I would imagine that the younger you are and the less you have and more naive you are, the more you look at this as a way to get rich quick.

Poker - WAY UP. I have played for 30 years and it has been an awesome ride. I really wish I could play pro, but the family and job does not allow me that luxury.
Ponies - A little up. Haven't played for years.
Craps - Evil game. I have had so many huge swings playing craps. I really am not sure so I will say down. I have banned this game for myself. I can't take the swings.
Sports - Up. I have pretty lucky over the years in sports. Not a lot up, but up for sure.
Other casino games - Down. I don't really play very many casino games, but I have lost on them overall.

37% winners LOL. I'm sure that SBR and the other gambling forums could stay in business when 37% of the posters are winners. Let's ask who's dick is 9" is more. JJGold will be the only one to say it's less.
