    Joe Louis
I am covinced this guy would have kicked the piss out of ALI. What a piece of S Ali was for calling him an Uncle Tom. This documentary on HBO is awesome. All that Joe did for this country during the WAR. The IRS hung this guy it was a shame!!! BROWN BOMBER = BEST OF ALL TIME. ALI = Most Overrated of all TIME !!!!

joe louis was a man. ali wrongly considered the greatest boxer of all time. louis and sugar ray, hands down. ali pissed a lot of peeps off with his mouth, but that was his act. his interviews got him as much respect in public as his boxing. louis would have smoked him in the ring

I agree Sugar Ray Robinson may be the best boxer ever. I think Joe's story makes him the best overall. ted Williams, Joe Louis and others that gave years of the Prime away to the Military need to be discussed as the heroes they were!! I don't think Prince Fielder or Kobe Bryant are going into the service anytime soon. The modern day athlete is a Pssy compared to these GREAT MEN.

The "uncle tom" comment always soured me on Ali.

            Another great HBO sports documentary.

I'm really glad HBO revisited this story. It didn't get into a LOT of Joe Louis life that would've made him an even BIGGER icon. They painted the fact he was an icon well - but there is a lot more depth to it.

I've read a lot and seen many documentaries on Joe Louis and it's hard to say where he would've fit in history... But as far as overall legend, I think Louis impact goes far beyond any other boxer that ever lived. Impossible to say where he ranks amongst the top boxers, though - but it's hard to not put him in the top 2-3 BOXERS of all time.
