Computer Help Needed

My grandfather has alot of pictures saved on his Windows Vista computer which he saved via a slide scanner. as you can see in the above picture, the text on the comments, which were showing on fine the other day has changed on its own to some weird language. this happened to above 30 or more photos that we looked at. Is there anyway to fix this without retyping what was there? He has other photos in the same folder and the comments on those show up fine
