Nhl Bust Could Hurt Offshore Gamming

Do you think there is any risk at all to people's funds? In other words, if a ban did happen would getting paid out become an issue?

I seriously doubt it, they have mentioned Online gambling is "illegal" for ten years now. No way to control it, way far that point now.

One a little incident has no effect, I believe this is not offshore sportbook related anyways. A domestic gambling ring.

        i disagree datek,

i feel that with gambling currupting the integrity of one of the four major sports played in the USA. plus all the political pressure that has been thrown around for the past few years. then you add the fact that all four of the major sporting leagues wanting that bill to pass thru congress. yes, i feel this could really jeapordize offshore gamming in the USA.

Couldn't disagree more BBD...Jagr (sp?) was betting offshore a few years ago and the zealots weren't able to leverage it...various actual fixing attempts have been made and Vegas rolls on...these guys weren't betting on hockey so there was no corruption of integrity involved, just law enforcements hunger for high profile cases to try to do a little scare job on laws they know it's fruitless to try to enforce.

BBD,I know what you're saying but have to disagree with you my friend....The offshore industry is so big there is no stopping it or even slowing it down....There will always be an answer no matter what the US govt tries to do,kind of like police radars and radar detectors.

This gambling bust is huge and we will be surprised over the next couple weeks of other names that will be mentioned but this will hurt the NHL much worse than the gambling industry......Just my opinion

Too much money to be made to stop gambling. The NFL mandates injury reports for the sole purpose of bettors.

quick question....can a pro athlete make a bet on a sport he doesn't play or is that illegal too (i.e. can an NBA player bet on MLB or NFL)?

NFL= No player can bet any sport
NBA= No player can bet on NBA only.

buddy, they highly frown upon this as this can often lead to debt and then a settlement with the bookie by shaving points or taking a dive...

NHL only prohibits betting on NHL games. So far there is no indication that anyone bet on an NHL game

The fact that all the major leagues are pressing for some kind of ban is worrisome. But I wonder if there is an agreement under the table that they back a gambling bill in exchange for congress loosening up on steroid testing.

I am suprised considering the number of people who gamble offshore that we don't see any politicians running on the platform of legalizing online gambling.

It's just like nobody is going to run on a legalize Marijuiana platform...the people who are against it are ready to make more of a fuss than people busy getting stoned or being in action.
