I'm actually surprised that more than a quarter of Americans do have passports. Most working class people can't afford a European vacation so unless it is your job or something behind leaving the country,most people stay right in the USA. I'm not saying it is good or bad one way or the other, just surprised.Comment -

Well maybe not so sad, but just factual. The US has a tendency to run a trade deficit too. More is coming in than out. There is massive investment in the US so naturally the focus of the population will be inside the country. ALSO, Out of that 73% that do not have passports, how many have just let their passport expire? Or maybe they are too old to travel but had a passport earlier in life. There are many reasons one might not have a passport at the moment.
