Anytime you download a torrent anyone you are exchanging data can see your IP address... There are sites that offer to run your bandwidth through a proxy for a fee but you are also going to lose speed...

IMO the best advice is to avoid PUBLIC trackers (such as thepiratebay, btjunkie, demonoid, etc) completely for anything slightly mainstream...
