    Last night's top announcer blunder
Rece Davis during the Cinci/USF game.

3rd down, QB throws a pass under pressure and the Center (ineligible receiver) tries to catch it. Flag is thrown.

Rece Davis says that it's a penalty and loss of downs (incorrect statement).

Refs mark the ball off & they are going to replay 3rd down then other team decides that they are going to decline the penalty, so it's now back to 4th down & the same yardage is previous was. Then Rece states that he knew he was right and it was loss of downs + penalty yardage. Wrong again, Rece. They declined the penalty. He should have known because the yds on 3rd/4th down were the same.

I can't believe these announcers don't understand basic rules & can't interpret what is happening on the field.

I think Rece just covers -too many- different sports.

I hear ya, but these guys don't err on the side of caution. they try to act smart and what not, his comment wasn't really needed and he was blatantly wrong twice in 60 seconds, which makes him look very ignorant and non-qualified.
