    Typing this was really unneccessary.

This is factually wrong. The Chinese became the majority in the 19th century.

I am talking about their "open doors" immigration policy. Any immigrant can apply for a citizenship. You say their immigration policies are discriminative but have not produced any reference of this despite a direct request. The numbers I quickly googled refute your claim. The recent numbers show that among new immigrants about 50% are Malays while about 25% are Chinese.
Data, you and I were talking about 2 different things. When I meant immigrants I meant the people who became citizens. The Malays that were already on the island are not immigrants. Those were the people who I was talking about, not newcomers to the island. That's why I mentioned about the island being a Malay island.

As far as immigrants being temporary guest workers that is something I was not referring to. I think that is what you were referring to. So I was talking about immigrants coming to the island to become citizens and you were talking (I think) about recent temporary people.

          Correction:
Any immigrant can apply for permanent residence except unskilled temporary workers. (To my defense, I did say twice that they discriminate against stupid.) The permanent residents can apply for a citizenship after meeting very reasonable criterias.

          Clarification:
QuantumLeap, the numbers I have given is precisely what you are talking about. There is a distinction between the residents, that include the citizens and the permanent residents, and the non-residents, the unskilled workers. The numbers I provided are a breakdown on the residents who were not born in Singapore.

Then we agree. You are dealing with people not born in Singapore. I was.

Oh, I did not realize you are talking about immigrants born in Singapore. My bad, carry on.
