Anyone ever pan handle?
Was in California recently and a guy asked me for 5 bucks. I was kind of stunned as he held his hand out and expected something. He muttered a 'come on man' under his breath and I handed him 2 bucks. I don't know why I gave this guy something....maybe because he looked so freakin' intense when stared at me. I was just thinking that this guy is probably making a fortune. Anyone ever do this for a living or know what these guys make? It must be dangerous because If you asked the wrong person for money they may snap on you.

My guess is if you know the ropes or are at least a decent looking female............the upside is almost unlimited. This gal, fairly cute but not a raving beauty, puts on her tattered jeans and heads for a corner that I pass 5x per week. The lights are long and she gets at least 3 hits every time I see her there. Some change, some bills.........nonetheless it all adds up tax free. Her line when she comes up to your car is I just missed my bus & I need money, can you help? Truth is she can't even spell bus. i know a guy that panhandels down at the rogers center and acc when games are going on.... he is a college student but he passes of as way older.... says he clears $100-150 a night for 2-4 hours of work.............Comment -

There was a guy on that intervention show that would do that...have someone give him $2-3 bucks and say "I really need $5" and people actually did it. He'd pull in $200 or so to get enough drugs for the day then stop. Some of these guys pull in thousands a week. When I worked downtown there was a lady who didn't look homeless or anything who would be there every day asking for $2 for the bus. People were constantly giving her bills...I'm sure she made a nice living.
I ignore the ones who ask for a certain amount, especially anything more than a dollar. If they ask for change and I have it I'll give it to them, or give them a buck, considering they really look like they need it; if they have a dog I feel bad and give a little more.Comment -
Thats a common one. Theres a middle-aged guy who hangs around the gas stations here saying his car broke down and they won't take his CCs for gas. He promises he'll send a check when he gets back to LA. He wears a suit and even shows the credit cards when he's telling his story. The first time we actually gave him a ride to the freeway on-ramp where he said his BMW was broken down. Of course, there was no BMW there and he looked like he wanted to jump out of the moving car when we questioned him.....needless to say every time we see him he isn't pleased with our comments and plays dumb like he has no idea what we're talking about.Comment -
Read a story a while back in some sort of magazine, don't really remember what, but basically some Canadian took acting classes and shit and grew out a beard and dressed up like a dirtbag, and panhandled for a year. Made like $100K+ IIRC.Comment -
