You didn`t have the flu then, you just had a cold. With the flu you will be in bed for at least 2-3 days.

I think this is the first time I've had it.
Now I understand why people get the vaccinations.
Don't be too hard on yourself. I've had more than half a dozen people who got the flu shot who have had positive flu tests. Not everyone is a responder to the vaccination. And it seems like those who had the flu shot and then got the flu have been the sickest SOB's I've seen all week.
Hope you got to the doc and got an Rx for Tamiflu, Mucinex (OTC), and Hycodan.
You'll live. It just doesn't feel like it right now!

Vanman is correct. If you were only sick 12 hours, you didn't have influenza. Doesn't mean you didn't have another virus, but you didn't have the flu.

The short answer is: It depends.
Longer answer:
1. The Center for Disease Control puts the three most likely strains of influenza in the vaccination. This is determined, largely, by which strain of flu is seen in Asia the year before. Sometimes the Center of Disease Control is wrong about which strain of influenza is going to be the predominate strain in a particular year. When they miss on the strain they put in the vaccination, the vaccination isn't going to help you.
2. Not everyone is a responder to the vaccination.
3. If you get your flu shot too early (August/early September), your ability to mount an immune response may be gone by the flu gets here in February (and you may get the flu anyway).

I saw on the news this weekend that the CDC is predicting the flu season is going to be worse in Feb and March this year, than it was in the earlier months of the season. I have no idea whether its true or not.

Thanks guys.
It's brutal, I'm supposed to be at a sailing certification course that I waited a month for today, but if I tried to sail in this condition I'd probably fall overboard, in addition to giving this to the rest of the crew!
Thanks for the advice DocJS. I didn't get to the doctor, and I can't imagine wanting to leave the house now and deal with it. I don't know for sure that I have the flu, but this is the 2nd day of fevers, chills, sore muscles, sore throat, and coughing. From what I've read, I nailed every symptom.

Drink a tsp of cayenne pepper in water, turn up the heat, and smother yourself with warm blankets...the flu virus can't survive nearly as long in a warm place and it will be gone before you know it.
