Should Bettis be a Hall of Famer?
It seems like I am the only one who doesn't think he should be. Just cause he plays in the league for a long time, and gets alot of carries and is a nice guy he should be in Canton? Bettis averaged under 4 yards a carry and was not near as good of a short yardage/goalline back as perception. To me Bettis is not nearly as good as his former teammate Ricky Watters who probably will get little consideration for enshrinement. I was a big fan of him especially at ND so it is not that I am rooting against him to make it I just don't think he was that good. To me he was just a good player that came into the league at 21 and still has productive at an older age than most. Clinton Portis to me is not very good but he will probably end his career as the NFL's all time leading rusher but to me he is not a hall of famer, because he is not in the top 10 backs in the league.

bettis has 13,662 rushing yards, and thats enough alone right there to get him into canton.

Early in Jerome Bettis carrer, the First seven years, Bettis was a major force. Bettis also had a spectular line lead by Dimitry Dawson, Just a massive beast. Just cannot ignore the overall numbers, Plus how can you not put him in Hall of Fame when he has a Jerome Bettis National Holiday day in Pittsburg and in Detroit. A lot of rumors is this really could happen for him. How funny. A perfect ending.

bettis is overrated and im a steelers fan!

he only had 3 legitimate hall of fame years but that hefty 13,662 will get him in and now a ring to go with it

You make a pretty good argument rm18. My first reaction to your question was, "Yes of course," but now I am rethinking that.

Justified or not, he will get in though.

I would say no if it weren't for his career yardage.

He will get in. He was a "lunch bag" player. The total yards as others have written get him in alone and the superbowl hype just solidifies the entry.

his ypc wasn't that great, but as Illusion pointed out, he has a ton of career yards...and a bunch of TD's as well...
