If you've bought them before, you might be able to use the same one again without buying it again.
The restaurant is supposed to call in a number that cancels it once used. I don't think they get paid for that so many places don't bother with that.
I found I have 9 available for my favorite restaurant.
just log-in to your account, if it shows there you can use it again....I'd make sure it was at least a week or two old. The restaurant owner might just want you to be able to use it again or cares nothing about restaurant.com getting more money !

To improve your Restaurant.com experience, you no longer have to self-manage your gift certificate purchases. Once you have dined at the restaurant, our service will remove that certificate from your account. Your list of available certificates will automatically be updated on a routine basis. If for some reason a certificate appears in your account that you have already used, you can manually remove that certificate from the list by clicking on the certificate number and then click the "Remove this Certificate" link on the Gift Certificate Summary page.
If you have given the certificate as a gift and would like it removed from your account so that you do not accidentally use the certificate, please click on the certificate number and then click on the "Remove this Certificate" link on the Gift Certificate Summary page.
