League is selling photo of James Harrison's illegal hit

Posted by Mike Florio on October 19, 2010 11:12 PM ET
The folks at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh have uncovered an interesting angle regarding the hit that resulted in the imposition of a $75,000 fine against Steelers linebacker James Harrison.

The league currently is selling photos of the incident involving Harrison and Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, at anywhere from $15.95 to $249.95.

Sorry, but the NFL can't have it both ways. If the league wants to legislate dirty hits out of the game, the NFL should do nothing to profit from those dirty hits.

    For now, the NFL is.

UPDATE: It appears that the spike in traffic from PFT Planet has crashed the servers of the NFL Photo store.

That was a completely legal hit.
NFL needs to change the rule or shut up.
Merriweather hit was a disgrace and dude should have been sent home for a couple weeks.

The League just sent the Dan Patrick Show a reponse to these photos.

They said they use an outside source for the website and were not aware those photos were available for sale and would no longer be for sale.

Regardless of the photos the more important issue is these fines and potential suspensions. The hit Maryweather for New England applied did appear to be preventable but the Harrison hit was just a product of timing.

You can try and take out the dirty play but you can't penalize guys for just playing aggressive. What do they want, start recruiting DB's from Ivey League schools who have a Master's Degree in Physics?

they need to pay for harrison's bills cause he said if they adjust the rules he cannot play in the nfl. these players are so fukkking clueless someone must of hit them in the head or dropped them on their head. they have no idea how to tackle, all they wanna do is create a highlight hit. it is pathetic and makes them look dumber than they already are.

Anyway who would pay $20 for a photo?

the nfl doenst make money off of the suspensions. the players have to donate the amount of a fine to a charity of their choice.

Sure these helmet to helmet hits can be dangerous. They get paid millions to take this risk. You go across the middle you may get popped and get a concussion. Hate the NFLs new rules and they are only going to get worse. Play golf if you dont want to get jacked up.

This story is so over exaggerated it belongs on CNN. To think anyone apart of the NFL handpicked this photo to sell is just idiotic.
