I know it's kind of a silly thing to talk about, but it's just something to think about for a minute.
I know one thing it sure would have helped me out a few times.I'm sure it would have helped some of you this year.Just think how many times have you needed just 2 more pts to cover, and your team has the ball on the 3 yard line, and they fall on it.Awww I just kill somebody. This happened to me just a few weeks ago.Wisconsin is playing Rice, the spread is -29 Wis is up by 30, 4 seconds left when some 3rd string walkon for Rice drives in for a layup because the defense is just standing around watching. What the hell did they care they were nup by 30. 30 or 28 it don't make a damn to them.
Just think you could have college football teams up by 47pts. kicking 54 yard field goals with 2 seconds left.1st string quarterbacks throwing the ball 60 yards for a touchdown with 12 seconds left in the game.Basketball teams would be working to set up a 3pt shot with 18 seconds when there up by 20......Like I said I now it's stupid but it is something to think about

The spreads would be different if teams played to it. Favorites would have to be larger since they would be playing hard for much more of the game. This might not hold true for VERY large favorites since underdogs would now be able to start running clock in the 1st quarter.

most of the "old" timers have seen many, many, many games where the coach and others were keen to the spread. the more naive think the biggest boosters just pull that money out and give it away as if it came from their own checkbook, there is a quid pro quo that has existed for many years.

Let's see, we are college football players, we receive ZERO INCOME for our 30 hours of practice and play time per week. So, we can slack up at the end of this fourth quarter and ensure that the big dog covers the spread, or we can play hard and make sure we cover the spread. One way we get a big payday, the other way we get zilch. I wonder what we will decide to do?

So college football players don't receive any compensation for either current or lifetime income from playing? Interesting point of view.

I thought I was on ignore. And I thought this was a public discussion board where anyone could post and people discussed issues without having to resort to juvenile name-calling.

Care to elaborate more on your theory? I'm very interested to hear the about "zero income" hypothesis.

well tell us in your opinion what income they derive from participating in the biggest income producer for most college athletic programs? do they get a W2 at the end of their college career? oh that's right most of them get a worthless degree and a couple of bad knees for the effort.

                            Teazeman,

That's just silly. To suggest it happens frequently shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how markets work.

As for players not getting paid, they get a free education and a weekly stipend. Top players, in particular, would not risk millions in the NFL for a couple Gs. The rest all have NFL aspirations too, and you can see that when you see guys who don't have a chance to make the NFL trying over and over again and refusing to give up that dream.
