Tales from the crypt is another great one that I would recommend. The movie from 1972, not the HBO series (though the HBO series is great too). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069341/

Black Christmas is probably a close second.

The one thing i loved about the HBO series is the intro where the camera goes from the outside of the house to the basement, pretty good stuff if your watching it late at night,,

Hell, you could even add the old school unsolved mysteries to the mix.. Nobody can forget listening to that creepy intro music at 3AM in the morning.. Shit will send chills up A grown man's spine...

event horizon was pretty decent. exorcist still creeps me out. a movie that i think was underrated in the horror category was hostel. because the likelyhood of that happening is not that far off. it shows the evil that lives in the avg humans

Trilogy of terror was great, in a cheesy 1970's horror movie kind of way.
