Congressmen Jim McDermott has released analysis that shows regulating Internet gambling would generate between $8.7 billion to $42.8 billion in federal revenues over its first ten years. That is a lot of money the government could recoup that is currently going offshore, since millions of Americans continue to gamble online in an unregulated, unprotected environment.

This is like telling an alcoholic you'll give them a dollar if they'll quit drinking. The US government is not changing their position on this at any time in the near future. Anybody who likes the value they get by wagering in today's environment should really be hoping government does not jump in to grab a huge chunk of profits in the name of regulation. This is an industry that should be able to effectively regulate itself.

I agree. The only thing worse than an industry rife with corruption is a government bureaucracy rife with both corruption and inefficiency regulating an industry rife with corruption.

How much confidence would you really have in a 45-year old geography major working for Uncle Sam for $52K/year certifying that SBG Global is a safe place to wager?

And once the government starts passing on the fees to the gaming companies for the 300,000 "It's rigged!" complaints they'll receive from unhappy bettors every year, -120 will become the new "reduced juice" standard.
