It’s not like its any major revelation or anything and I am certainly not the first person to realize this but I think Players Talk is seriously hurting my bottom line.
Obviously it isn’t Players Talk but the fact that I allow myself to spend too much time participating in the drama/entertainment portions of Players Talk instead of using that time to focus on capping. Also it’s not just Players Talk it’s all the other forums and other distractions we allow to interfere in taking time away from researching the games.
I don’t know if it’s the same for those that chase steam or just play a numbers game because I have never taking the time to learn how that works. Maybe straight modelers or system players don’t have to dedicate as much time, I can’t say because I’m not that familiar with that either. I do know that I had success the past 2 years and it was because I dedicated on average 30+ hours a week to capping. I’m not putting in anywhere near that this year. I’m not checking injury reports as frequently, not watching line movement as closely, not looking ahead to see whose on tap in certain situations, I’m simply not doing a good enough job doing what it takes for me to be successful.
Don’t get me wrong, there is no guarantee I would be having a better season if I was 100% focused, there could still be a problem. I do think I would do myself a favor though if I didn’t spend so much time reading about some of the stuff that goes on outside the games. I know I would do myself a favor if I didn’t allow myself to get caught up in all the drama or worse yet participating in it. Ultimately it’s my own fault and I am hurting my bankroll as a result.
This is not an anti-Players Talk post, just venting at my own poor judgment and wondering if others have allowed themselves to lose focus for whatever reasons.
