He's able to play because he is being paid to play baseball not football. He's not able to play baseball this year. You can get paid in college, but cannot play any sport in which you've become a "pro".

hell, many players have been drafted by an mlb team and paid for upwards of 6 years and THEN decided. "okay i'm not that good at baseball maybe i'll try college football"

maybe Heisman trophy winner Chris Weinke rings a bell for a few people for example, or Drew Henson, JJ House, RJ Bowers ect.
