I dislike her. She is a conniving who-a. I will leave the good ol' US of A if she is elected. I will join Mr. Dolban in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Just can't believe she has come this far. Has no business running for president, but neither did George W. Bush and he somehow got two terms. Sad state of affairs.

Edwards would be the strongest candidate for the Dems in a general election.
I know an old dude who's voted Dem all his life. If Hillary or Obama are the nominee, he is going to stay home.
Right. Because he won't vote for a woman, nor a black.
I think there's still a lot of that in the U.S. But, it is what it is.
There is also a strong hard-core of anti-Clintonites who will work and contribute to defeat Hil.
The Dems should be heavily favored in this race, but they may end up actually giving the election to Johnny Boots.

Find me a politcian that isn't a "conniving who-a".
As for Hillary/Barrack, there's no way a woman or a minority will be elected president. The redneck red states will not carry. McCain will have to come out as being a homosexual or something to lose the redneck contingent who will vote for a white male by default. Letting a black or woman get the democratic nomination is just as bad as having a Jew run for V.P., or a woman run for V.P. Both of those attempts were refuted handily. Although, the last time needed some cheating, but the old boy network pushed it through. Don't expect anything less this time around.

You are probably right in what you say, but it is sad that in this day and age people are still so ignorant. I would laugh at their stupidity, except it's really not funny.
While I wouldn't vote for either Hillary or Obama, the reason is nothing so shallow and ill-informed as that they are a woman and a black.

Just a thought, but perhaps the reason we redneck red states don't care for them has more to do with their socialistic ideas than race and/or gender.

Undoubtedly there is a large contingent that feels that way, but it is undeniable that there is also a significant population throughout the US that will vote for a farm animal before they vote for someone who is not a Christian White Male. This might be their order of choice:
Christian White Male
Farm Animal
Christian White Female
Christian Black Male

I believe that 100 percent of what candidates spew when they are trying to get elected is horseshit, so I generally do my own research on the person's background which generally gives a better perspective of who they are and what their true intentions may be once elected. In my research on Obama, I have found some facts that I find unsettling.
And, btw, it's Barack.

You are very wise, sportsgirl. All politicians are liars and sacks of shit with one true goal -- SELF ADVANCEMENT! These are the same types of people as the Reese Witherspoons in the movie Election. They want to build their resume. They want you to admire them. If you think for a second that a politician gives so much as a rat's phuck about anyone but themselves, you are misguided. They tell you what you want to hear. Their voting record on the floor though is what really matters...........
Solid post.

Which "redneck states" in the midwest do you mean? If Obama can win Iowa (maybe the biggest "redneck state" in the country behind Indiana and West Va.), than I think anything is possible. As a matter of fact, multiple opinion polls have shown that being Mormon has a FAR greater negative impact than being black or a female (and being a female has a substantially greater negative impact than being black). Believe it or not, being an "atheist" is the category that would disqualify a candidate most of all.
If people were to see the actual polling statistics, I think they'd be VERY surprised at who this country is and isn't willing to vote for.

Mid west states can't claim to be 'redneck' states. That is reserved for us down here in the south in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, etc. Iowa is a 'yankee' state to me.

God loves rednecks. We know that because he made so many of them People might not guess it, but if you ever make it up to New Hampshire/Maine you'll get all the rednecks you could ever wish for. I don't know if I like the term, as it actually got its origins from hard working, unskilled, white labor.
I've always viewed the South as "black states" (hey, if others can call the Midwest "redneck" country I can call the South by their racial makeup) if anything due to some states having over 50% African American populations. It's not rare to be in nice restaurants and be the only white person in a lot of deep south establishments (which I don't have a problem with one iota). Cheers...

Many flock to Memphis, Atlanta, Jackson, Birmingham, New Orleans, and Atlanta so if you eat in the city areas there that would probably be like what you are describing.

I believe that grand attempts are made at separation of church and state and if a person has no real allegence to a church or denomination, then perhaps the leanings of such would not cloud their judgement on governmental issues. However, if a person has a strong and longtime commitment to a certain religion, then likely their thinking is similar to the doctrine of that religion and thusly might interfere with their judgement. Mind you, I said "might." Voting for someone to me is all about what risks you're willing to take and what bad your willing to take with the little good that might come out of it. I'm not usually a pessimist, actually quite the opposite in most cases (i.e. I thought the Steelers could beat NE), but when it comes to politics, it's not really pessimism as much as it is reality.
Anyway, here's some of what has me "unsettled" as far as Obama is concerned:
Check out his own Senate Web site and see what church he belongs to:
What that church is about is almost as frightening as the Muslim aspect of his parentage. Highlights include:
- We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black
- roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.
- We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
Also, the congregation there has what they call a "10-point vision." I like No. 4 the best (insert sarcasm):
4. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA. (the All-caps was that way on the Web site.)
Anyway, it all sounds a wee prejudice to me and I think I'd rather the President of the US have a non-negotiable commitment to the US.

It's only a matter of time before Hillary refers to Obama using the "N' word and then it will be all over for her.
