Long term investors-are you buying stocks?
Just curious, any long term investors out here? I do some short plays once in a while. I have a few mutual funds, I also build my own basket of stocks. I've added MO (Altria Group) and RHT (RedHat) in the last week.

What have you bought lately? Lets put some stuff on the radar. Kick the tires. What do you like right now?

Not selling. I like the retirement funds I have and will weather the storm. If your time horizon is long enough, this current crap won't matter.

Bought Etrade at 2.50 speculation play that they will turn it around closed at 4.14 today.

Might buy some yhoo under 19 today after earnings would like to see it get around 15

Good grab man. I had my eye on etrade a few weeks back and didn't act on it. I was watching the ticker today and noticed it was close to 4 1/2. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Bush leaving alone will be worth a 500 pt increase. Unfortunately we'll drop 2000 pts between now and then.

Absolutely correct. We will trade sideways for a year. Those with a bit of balls and capital to invest will do just fine going forward. Now is the time to shop.

Hedge....you buying anything? Or just funds?

This is my plan for 08':

                Focus on two groups.

                1. Rock solid companies....must pay a fat dividend. Income stocks. In particular vice. Tobacco, gambling, booze......buy on the dips, reinvest the dividends. IRA accounts can reinvest div's tax free, standard after tax brokerage will get IRS 1099'd on the div's....but thats okay, I own both.

                2. Tech companies.....business spending will slow. Good software companies and component makers will dip on slight disappointment in earnings. Buy. The core of all business is software.

I'm just going to focus on a few core stocks in each of the groups I mentioned. I will buy on the dips and sell only if the gain is tangible.....and buy back back the original equity when it falls.

I'll bang out 10 - 30 % on my portfolio in 08' easy. Thats the plan anyway.

Historically you cannot lose buying stocks long term

rode ambac ticker abk from 6.20 to 14.80 in 48 hours last Tuesday and Wednesday. I bought some SPrint options since I think they will make a little of a comeback. Home Depot has been doing well lately.

I saw that jump on Sprint today. It's going to 15. Maybe higher.
