I got out of almost everything except gold a week ago. As you called for the bottom I got out. But even my gold stocks have taken a hit but I'm still up around 8% on them. I was up 16% or so before the hit took place.

I empathize SBR John. I got killed as well. $50K in VM Ware call options that expire on January 18, 2008 that is currently worth $125. What a horrible way to start 2008.

I keep telling you guys to short the dow etf (DIA) and the S&P 500 etf (SPY). Since the day after christmas they both have been on a steady downward spiral. Nothing goes straight down but these two are close. Get on now during the next upday. You have already missed 10% since christmas and there is about another 20% to go.

Im happy with my positions, then again Ive held several stocks for over 25 years, and my cost basis is so cheap from splits its ridiculous.
I do keep adding to a tech fund im in, but just on days where the nasdaq loses 2% or more, think long term, trading is very difficult to do on a consistent basis.
Im probably going to close out my 2nd trade of 08 out today. If I do it will be 2 positive trades so far in 08.

Earlier this year I shifted money from sp500 to a US small cap value fund. What a mistake. At least the sp500 has companies with international exposure. US small cap pretty much takes all the hit from the horrible US economy.

I don't trade that much - I'm also a longer term investor.
I'm taking money out of my gambling bankroll to buy stocks now. I'd Avoid financials and retail stocks for now, but there is a lot out there that looks good.
John,
Why not start a stocks and investing forum?

because it'd probably get less traffic than our site suggestions forum.

I put that suggestion in yesterday or maybe the day before that. There seems to be a decent amount of Wall street chatter on this forum. Wall street is just like gambling, except the government has convinced people that it is called "investment".

My gold portforlio is down another 1.4% today so I bailed out of all of it. Sitting on the sidelines now. Now all I got is cash and sports accounts (and about 10K in bonds).

I actually feel the opposite. Sports gambling is an investment whereas wall street is gambling.

i do sports betting for excitment. most of my money are diversified in CD, Bonds, and Blue Chips. Investment is suppose to be boring, if you're having too much fun playing the stocks...that means you're taking too much risk.

O.K. guys and gals, DIA and SPY were down over a half a percent today again.
By the way people in 401K mutual funds are hurting too.

I think you may soon regret that move 24/7. Whether or not this "economic stimulus" actually prevents a recession it seems to make inflation a certainty (unless you believe the government will actually somehow reduce spending to make up for the money they're handing out to the public). I can hear the printing presses warming up right now. I know gold pulled back a bit on recession fears, but I don't think the Fed has any way out of it without inflation.
Good luck to all.

Hey, when someone hits you in the face with a snow shovel, get up, turn the other cheek, and get hit again.
Great time to buy! If you think long term. Take a very close look at Under Armour (UA). They were hit hard because investors didn't like their focus on a marketing campaign for the first half of 2008, and would have preferred short term profits instead. UA will run a Super Bowl add in the 1Q of the game, and in May is coming out with an athletic shoe line that is expected to be revolutionary. The company, its story, its corporate culture, its unique product line, is a winner. You can basically get in on the ground floor now.

Hello My Name Is Because>
Jim Cramer just said DOW will fall another 2000 points fast,
Wait for the 4th day (after the Cramer pump or dump) and do the opposite. Bingo every time. He has to support his Hedge Fund Buddies. He says sell, they are buying, he says buy they are selling. Borrowed this from somewhere but I agree !!

Good advice. Oddly enough this clown called a bottom about 2 weeks ago and now he says it's gonna drop another 2K.
