Any hunters here at SBR ?
How realistic is bagging a deer for a novice ?

I want some Venison. Do I have to buy like a 30 odd 6 rifle, shotgun ?

Can a novice hunter suceed ?

How do gut the thing and such if you bag one ?

I'm a newbie at this, very raw ?

I'm thinking about it, though !

not too hard i did it when i was 13 but didnt think it was that mcuh fun and didnt do it again. Rifle like 30 odd 6 is good or a shotgun works as well. Get a deer stand somewhere probably, its a lot easier to get one that way.

Just look up gutting on the google, im sure u can find a better explanation than i can give you.

If you have a deer stand in an area with any deer activity it will be pretty easy.

By the time you buy all the equipment to hunt deer it will be cheaper to buy venison by the pound. The biggest problem after killing the deer is taking it back to your truck. Deer weighs a lot.

I should be pretty clean as to getting a firearm, no felonies. I'm pretty clean, have multiple DUI's, but a few months short of 7 years without a single offense, not even a parking ticket !

I have absolutly nothing against me since about Nov 2003 against me, not a thing !

7 years clean, almost ! Last DUI was about Nov/ dec of 2003.

I never had a felony charge. Can I get a license for a gun ?

                30 odd 6

you dont shoot deer with a shotgun, shotguns are for birds
                rifle for deer.

take the deer to a processor after killing it, they'll clean it for you and cut the meat how you want.
be sure to get the backstraps...
mainate in italian dressing for a couple hours,
wrap them in bacon and grill, delicious

                    1 more thing:
the smaller the deer the better the meat.

Depends. You should be fine. Depends on what state you live in.

hmmm not too many people will agree with this. altho obviously a few people do love it.

It's not very good imo, but edible. ( i ate quite a bit when i shot my deer)

                                agreed best game meet.

use your 306 and spend some time the next couple months looking for a good spot, check for deer tracks and what not. deer move in the morning so if u have a good spot or a tree stand make sure your there before the sun comes up

hmm 30 odd 6 lol .. I think thats .30-06 or pronounced 30 "aught" six ... check your local game warden sometimes they have list of people who like to hunt but prefer to give the meat away ... then you can pay someone to process it for you .. approximately 30 bucks around here for deer.

I'm non expert on munitions, but I think a 30.06 is a rifle ( suitable for deer) and not a shotgun load, I could be wrong, though ?

if you JUST want venison and are not interested in the thrill of the hunt or whatever, it will be much cheaper for you to just buy it.

I always wondered how they could call it hunting - when they sit in a chair or behind a cover - then throw food on the floor and wait for the deer to come to them ....

.... a "Hunt" should involve at least 3-5 miles of climbing and a couple of Lions in my opinion.

I don't have a butcher buddy, though, and I'm not a hunter. I can't see me carrying a deer carcass two miles to my truck, either ! I'd like some venison, though ! I love me some deer meat !

                                              I don't think a 30-30 is a shotgun, but I don't know much about guns.

I don't want to pay like $15+ per lb for it, either !

I am never too impressed by some story about how you sat in a tree covered in fox piss and shot a deer licking on a salt lick that you set in the woods from 300 yards away.

I enjoy deer meat but unless you chased the deer down and put it in a choke hold until it died spare me the i'm a bad ass hunter story and just give me some damn steaks

Wife be telling me to get another " hobby". I'm considering hunting deer, then ! It would get me away from her ( a goal, of mine). I'm considering it.

30-06 and 30-30 are most common deer rifles. You can use a shotgun with a slug. Some states only allow shotguns. Rifles are much more accurate and have a much better range.

                                                      Good luck!

Taking up hunting deer isn't a great idea for me, at this time. I think I'd get any permits/ pass any background check without a problem...but I'm also looking to move cross-country, better done without carrying firearms !

I don't know shvt about hunting either....just want some venison. I'd be better as a helper for a hunter bud ( don't have one).
