At one time (since cds are pretty much obsolete, get scratched, etc.) I was burning all my music to high quality mp3 and lossless flac and did about half my cds before I stopped... Now I'm considering selling my music on ebay... (I hardly even listen to mp3s anymore as I prefer to listen to last.fm, music podcasts, and other internet streams...) Looking at the prices for individuals cds, I can't see spending the time listing them all separately so I figured I would just make one large lot and take what I could get for them... My question is if I have no intention of keeping the music I previously burned can I include the backup copies on say a external hard drive (or maybe a ipod that I'm probably going to sell as well) if I include the orginal cds within the same auction?

No. The Copyright Act does not permit anyone to sell backup copies to third parties separately from the original copy of the software. If you lawfully own a computer program, you may sell or transfer that lawful copy together with a lawfully made backup copy of the software, but you may not sell the backup copy alone.>>

I'm sitting on hold with the copyright office right now... I want to verification that you can do this because I will finish burning my music, sell the all backups on a external drive, and load my ipod up with all the music I have cds for... As a lot I'm hoping I can get something decent out of it because used cds (understandably) sell for crap now...Comment -

Damn... Right after I posted an anti-government comment on my facebook page I got disconnected from the Copyright Office (after 1 hour and 48 minutes on hold) and, of course, the office is now closed... I may have just listened too much Alex Jones/Art Bell in the past but I'm now 100% convinced the feds are closely monitoring my internet activity...
