Antonio Cromartie. . . The best cornerback in the league?
He's very good, but not even close to the best corner in the league. There's a reason he started out the season as SD's nickel back. INTs are never an accurate indicator of a DBs play. In Cromartie's case, he's probably not the best DB on his own team (Jammer). Samuel is also terribly overrated. The following are all better cover corners than Cromartie and Samuel:
Champ
C-Wood
Terence Newman
Al Harris
Rashean Mathis
Nate Clements
Asomugha
Antoine Winfield

Champ Bailey imo is easily the best, but Cromartie is definately turning some heads of late. He has definately shown why he was such a high draft pick even after sitting out his whole last year in college with an injury.

Asante Samuel
Champ Bailey I'd say are top two talent wise.
Asante is hitting free agent market unless NE resigns him to a huge deal, can't see them spending that much on him. He's going to demand a huge paycheck.
Cromartie may be the most athletic though, but no not best corner in league at this point.

Pacman Jones is the best when on the field.

Champ Bailey...........hands down
Most Qb's don't even look to his side of the field.........last year only allowed 4 receptions all year and had around 8-10 picks.

Very good point, he gets thrown at less than anyone in the league so his stats aren't near what they would be if thrown at like a regular corner.

i know someone here (sbr) who emailed an nfl coach and told him Cromartie was the best db in the draft Before it happened. to call something now is neat, but to be that talented is...well...

Cromartie's very good and will likely be among the elite corners in the league one day, but putting a guy that's started 8 games in his career in the top 2 at his position, ahead of proven guys like Newman, Mathis, Woodson and Winfield, is ridiculous. Jared Allen led the league in sacks. Does that make him the best DE in football? I also recall Deltha O'Neal leading the league in picks a few years back, yet he was also never a premier corner. You could argue for Cromartie's inclusion in the top 10, but debating whether he's the best DB in the league is foolish. He's extremely talented physically, but don't be fooled by his INT total and highlight reel plays... he still has lots of room for improvement and is often too aggressive, always going for the pick.
Samuel's the single most overrated defensive player in the league. His status was inflated by his performance last season and the fact he plays for the Patriots, but he routinely gets beat and picks up too many penalties. Some team will be making a huge mistake this offseason paying him as a top corner, which he isn't.

The only three guys who have to be ranked ahead of him are Champ Bailey (if you don't think he's the best corner in the league, stop gambling on the NFL now), Asomugha (whoever signs him this summer will be getting an incredible player that no one knows), and Charles Woodson (it's ironic that possibly the biggest Pro Bowl snub in NFL history came at the expense of the man who was the beneficiary of the biggest snub in Heisman history).
