    Fear of Touting a Play
Whats up Boys just wanted to get something off my chest and see what you guys have to say about this.

I came to this forum to learn the ins and out of professional sports gambling, not to look for a tout or to be a tout. However I see that it is a major factor around here to get extra points, build your rep and poster of the month etc.

So about 2 weeks before the bash I touted my baseball picks and got very little feedback (AND THANK GOD) because I had the worst week and a half of the entire baseball season. So I stopped touting because I felt it was a hex or something.

So then a week later I had loved a certain game I can't seem to find the post, but I had loved a small fav I think it was the Det Tigers. I played it big in SBR Points and Cash and won. I then made a BIG MISTAKE I went into the game thread and said I had liked the game. A poster came back and stated that if I was going to TOUT a game do it before the game and sounded kinda pissed (and I deserved it).

From then on I decided to stop touting games. Then on Sunday I liked DEMPSTER and made a parlay with the CUBS and just threw a small post up about it, nothing big just "Hey I am on the CUBBIES". Well we all know DUMPSTER got BOMBED and I lost that play.

Then on Saturday Miz lost and Brock started taking a SHIT load of heat for his play that I played also (but teaser 10 points to win). I watched that game and Mizz should have covered and in retrospect I think it was a solid pick.

I on the other hand was ALL OVER BOISE and stated in the post. I almost made a Video about how much I was on Boise, but my friend CSM506 suggested I don't tout the game, because in the LONG RUN it never ends well.

So then after that victory I see all the shit Brock is taking and I know I don't want to go through that shit.

So that brings me to today. I go online to check the team totals and see that Boston is a 4 and that the wind is blowing to the NW at 15mph. The green monster is to the NW. At that point in time I load up on The Red Sox Team Total. I so wanted to share that game with you guys but I had two fears. #1 It loses and I get crushed like Brock did or #2 I would lose just out of Spite because I touted the game.

So in ending, I want to tell all you guys who TOUT Games, I respect you so much you are in a lose lose situation in my book. IF you got 8-0 and BUILD A big crowd and then lose in game 9 your a FUKKING IDIOT. That type of crap is not fair and almost more stressfull than the money on the game. Think about you think Brock was more worried about the money or the forum. You got to remember he made more plays than just those two rubber band plays so he might have lost just a little. However he had to come back to the forum and face the wrath of Kahn.

Anyways didnt want to be long winded but had a lot on my mind so there it is. I hope everyone here had a great day and killed the books.

    Later!

    Matt

I started a thread for this season in football. You always risk falling on your face when you put yourself out there, but I am a football handicapper and I will share my plays. If I tout a baseball game it will do you just as well to go ask your fukin grandma who she likes, but football is what I do & people want to follow fine, if they dont thats fine.

Like Paco & many other great cappers here who have a following, its all about consistency & honesty.

    Brock has neither

Let me clarify one thing right here. I AM NOT trying to turn this thread into being about or against Brock.

It was more about my fear of touting due to either loosing and facing the board or that mysterious loosing streak you are due to hit once you begin to tout.

To me touting is like when an announcer says "JOHNSON has not missed a FG all year" or "SHIELDS has not giving up a homer in 5 outings" or "Blaylock has not missed a free throw in 50 attempts"

Tell us some stories about stealing bags of coke and then letting people go..

Tell us about the times your partners elbow drunks in the back of the head when they put them in the back seat..

It's a hard thing to put urself out there day in and day out.

I got alot of guys who appreciate and we cashed in 4 sports together. Once u win enough, the cool ones will take the losses with u in a human way where some idiots will go crazy at u with cussing u all the way to cussing out ur whole family. Main thing, u put ur play and it's up to the poster if they wanna tail, fade, or pass, u never made em do either. So at the end of the day, don't feel bad.

Well Brocks situation is a but different, he basically tries to force u into believing his play has NO chance of losing

It sucks losing. That would make me want to tie a loose knot. I better not tie it too tight though... that would be a lose lose situation.

I honestly think it depends on how you present yourself when you start your thread. If you start off hyping yourself up then you are setting yourself up to have high expectations placed on you and to take a lot of grief when you lose. Also, if you're the type of person that just wants to post your plays and isn't open to friendly discussion about it, or even worse gets cocky and defensive and starts acting nasty to those who are on the opposite side or question you, then it's almost human nature that people will bounce back in your thread after and rub it in if you lose. Same goes when the original poster declares the game over when it's not even close to being finished. People love piling it on when they fall on their face. If you're humble, admit you're just trying to make a buck and don't hold yourself up as some supreme capping being, then I find people will generally be very supportive whether you're winning or losing.

It is daunting at times though and I admit there was a time a few weeks ago I almost closed down my own thread for a few days because I'd gone on an unbelievable run and didn't feel comfortable with the amount of false praise being thrown my way. I knew I was due for a correction and didn't want to feel responsible for anyone losing their cash by blindly tailing me. But I explained myself several times over in my thread and warned everyone that I was due for a downturn so that was the best I could do.

If you want to start a thread, go for it and just have fun with it. You're bound to get one or two haters regardless of how you run your thread but if you remember that they're just anonymous people that you'll never meet in your life, that always helps take the sting off a bit. The people who cop the most flack on here tend to bring it on themselves in one way or another. Just check out what their threads look like and strive to do the opposite. Best of luck LV.

Shari, we're all gonna have streaks, its the nature of the business. My goal is to be +units by Monday night every week. This was the first week & with no NFL & I managed to do that with plays that I posted up for discussion in my thread, no hype, no BS, no 72% rubbercockring, just solid handicapping & taking some chances.

What you do in that tennis thread is awesome, Shari. I dont bet tennis but I have not heard one person say anything negative about your thread

You're not always going to get the views (especially when you win)....90% of the people on this board want to see you lose...not sure why

I haven't seen or heard you do anything that would warrant any concern (can't see why anybody would get joy out of making fun of you). You seem to take gambling and posting serious ...keep the signature updated (win or lose).

                                EI,

No I guess I am not concerned because I have been criticized. I guess the main thing is all mental, like things went bad for me when I posted the plays then went real good when I didnt post

So I an wondering if I am the only person who feels like posting plays is bad luck? I guess is the way to say it?

I had a a 3 or 4 day run where any big play I posted lost. And not only lost, but lost in the flukiest or most disgusting ways possible for tennis. I stopped posting my big plays for 2 days and hit them all. Weird stuff happens when you have a thread.

Hmm, you're definitely overthinking this and overrating your own level of importance and recognition value here if you think you will become Brock or THADIESEL status just by posting a few picks.

And who gives a fuk? You don't NOT post picks out of fear of what people on the internet will say or think; you post picks to contribute, gain feedback, and gain credibility.

Feel the same way LVB. Couldn't have said it better myself. Have felt this way for years. Lots of times I hold back on forums because of it, who needs the extra pressure with this and what sucks is that in the end I feel like I could have helped out by picking more winners then losers but what are you going to do? The if you do win you got people who start folowing you and want to know your record, like I said who needs it?

The funny thing it all really means nothing in the big scope of things. Because you or I go 7-2 or 2-7 it still tells nothing about us as cappers, etc... Unfortunatley no one feels this way and puts way too much stock in these few results (myself included). Guess there is no real answer to this other then win or lose just jeep posting and don't worry about it which is a lot easier said then done for sure.

Post whatever you want LV. I think many times people lose a ton of money, are in a bad mood, and take it out on somebody who just lost a game. Not an easy business and sbr forum is not the first place to look for happy people. I hope you can really make it in vegas and I hope to see some LV picks tomorrow
