I notice this when I bet long season sports like baseball especially and sometimes the NBA and NHL.You can tell from the get go that the team might put in a half ass effort the first few minutes of the game and if breaks don't go their way they just take the night off.It seems like a planned event where even the coach is in on it to give the team a breather on a difficult road trip etc.If you follow teams you can get a vibe as to when they will lay an egg even when the seasoned handicappers and oddsmakers think they will put in a valant effort. It's like the quitting team was dealt an offsuited 2 and 9 in Omaha and decides to fold and not even check.
Remember when you were a kid and weren't suited for things that your parents shoved and forced you into that you had no interest in?As soon as you showed the least inclination of not wanting to practice, your old man started ragging on you about being a quitter.
Then in high school it got worse where kids you knew that had problems breaking bones at a young age just doing minor athletic things were showing up for football practice. You felt like telling them that they were idiots and to move on to something like golf or ping pong. You have all this societal peer pressure thing where people force themselves into things that aren't suited for them.God forbid some scrawny Rudy of a kid would tell his coach he wanted to quit before he got killed or broke more bones than Evel Knievel. There are allot more Lucas's than Rudy's in the world when it comes to people not faring out so well when they didn't quit when they were overmatched taking on more than they could handle.
You can blame the government for allot of this BS don't be a quitter crap with all of their affirmative action type rules, regulations and programs. They tell a 18 year old guy that's a senior in high school that he better get 6 pack abs,be able to bench press 350 pounds and run a mile in under 5 minutes and a 4.6 40 but when he shows up for marine boot camp he sees 300 pound and 96 pound women leaving camp that qualified to become marines. You think that it pays to be an underachiever and that the bar is lowered for some people so they don't have to become quitters.
Then you have the press glorifying these idiots that cut their arms off with a pocket knife when they got stuck scaling a mountain where they are back up doing it again. That's not inspiration, that's stupidity!!!!!You have guys that lost legs climbing mountains too and they go back up again and the press and idiot politicians say how great it is that they have american spirit bull crap and are an inspiration and a roll model. Why not give credit to some guy through no fault of his own that lost a kidney who decides to go out on the national beer drinking competition circuit then?It makes as much sense!!!!!!
Then to compensate for people having shortcomings and handicaps, you have all these cry babies like that Casey Martin that had bad legs and demanded he be able to use a golf cart on the PGA tour.Hell, pretty soon they will have to let guys in their 40's take chairs as outfielders to sit in where they just get up if a ball comes their way.Same for goalies, why when the puck is on the other end of the ice does a goalie have to keep standing when he could be sitting. The net is empty where they could have some fold up chair that slides back in when the puck goes to the other end. There would be allot more elderly goalies hanging around the league if they helped them out like that.
There are a million things to do in life but authority figures like parents, the government and coaches want to fit square pegs in round holes all the time and call people quitters when they know they don't fit in.
P.S a perfect example of this inspiration in not quitting BS is Herb Brooks coaching the 1980 mirracle on ice team.He slave drove these rag tag terrified of him kids that were brainwashed in a very short season where with allot of luck, the chips fell Brooks way.He tried being a task master, slave driver and never be a quitter BS in the NHL where he dealt with seasoned vets set in their ways playing a long and hard season and Brookes failed misserably.
